The French Manicure, Revisited
The French Manicure is always a classic, and this year, wearing the traditional look will do you just fine. However, these days, women are sporting the French Mani with a new twist-new colors with the classic design. Seen at the salon are color combinations like red and black, black and white (try it in reverse-black tips, white nails-known as the "Reverse French"), and even gold and pink. Do what works for you-maybe match the outfit you're wearing to that big celebration or go for holiday colors.
Your manicurist or nail technician will likely be familiar with this trend, so not much explanation is necessary; but if you must, simply explain that you want the French Manicure with different colors. This look can be achieved at home if you have a steady hand (unfortunately I don't!). You can purchase small decals (for keeping polish lines straight) at any department store.
Cut Them Down
This season, women are going for shorter nails with a well-manicured look. Think warm colors like rich mochas and deep jeweled reds. This one's easy to explain and easy to take care of at home.
Blue is the New Black
While a couple of seasons ago, celebrities were hitting the goth track with black nails, this year it's all about the dark blue. Consider having a lovely shade of midnight or navy added to your look.
Forget the Squares
Last year's trend was square nails, but this year, you're going to tell your nail technician to give you the squ-oval look. That is, slightly squared with rounded edges. The good news? This is usually a more flattering look for most women.
Get Your Bling On
Yep, I said it. Even though the colors of the season are darker this year, hit up the glossy, sparkly, and pearly polish this year. It's an easy way to update your look and what girl doesn't love a little bling?

Post a CommentI just had my 1st manicure/pedicure EVER! (Is that weird since I'm nearly 50 yrs old - huh?) I'm still not sure I'm into the whole zen of it. My oldest daughter loves them - the 'french look' is her fave. Thanks for your kind words on the 'teen party' story:-) Oh I did so enjoy playing hostess to my kids parties 'back-in-the-day'!
