Manitoba Harvest Hemp Bliss Original Hemp Milk Review

The Pen
I have been considering giving up dairy products or at least eating less of it, so I've been looking for alternative milks to try. I actually went to Whole Foods a couple of weeks ago in order to buy almond milk but I left with Manitoba Harvest's Hemp Bliss Original Hemp Milk.

I'd never tried hemp milk before but I'd heard that it was healthy, so I was willing to give it a try even though I wasn't sure if it would taste too good. I bought a 32oz of the milk in the Original flavor on sale for $3.69 I believe it's regularly priced at around $3.99.

The Manitoba Harvest Original flavor is sweetened so it contains the ingredients filtered water, organic hemp seeds, organic evaporated cane juice, sea salt, and xanthan gum.

One cup of the hemp milk contains 110 calories, 63 that are from fat. It also contains 7g of fat, 0.7g of saturated fat, and 0g of trans fat. There are omega-3 (1.2g) and omega-6 (4g) polyunsaturates, and omega-9 (1g) monounsaturates in the Manitoba Harvest Hemp Bliss.

The milk also has 0mg of cholesterol and 95mg of sodium. The hemp milk also contains 7g of total carbohydrates, 1g of dietary fiber, 6g of sugar, and 5g of protein. It contains calcium (2% DV) and iron (20% DV).

After I got home I drank a few sips of the Manitoba Harvest and I was really surprised that I liked the way the milk tasted.

Hemp milk obviously isn't as thick as cow's milk, but the Hemp Bliss doesn't taste as weak and watered down as soy. It actually has a rich texture that was satisfying. The Hemp Bliss had a creamy, earthy nutty flavor. It's slightly sweetened but the sweet flavor isn't very noticeable which I liked. The only thing that did bother me slightly is the milk's powdery aftertaste, but it wasn't a deal breaker for me.

In an effort to incorporate the Manitoba Harvest Hemp Bliss into my lifestyle I used it with the foods that I normally use cow's milk with. I put it into my oatmeal and it tasted great, it made my oatmeal taste nutty and rich. I also used it in pancake mix, but I found that it overwhelmed the other flavors and my pancakes tasted too earthy, plus they didn't really rise too much.

But my favorite way to really enjoy the Manitoba Harvest Hemp Bliss was just to drink a cold glass of it by itself. Regular milk tastes gross to me on its own, but the hemp milk is really good, it's sweet and nutty, and it doesn't make me feel like I'm full of mucus afterward.

In the End...

I am a fan of hemp milk after trying the Manitoba Harvest Hemp Bliss. I love the taste and texture, the only problem is that it only lasts 7-9 days before it begins to go rancid. I will continue to buy the original flavor, and I also want to try Manitoba's chocolate hemp milk. I give it 4 out of 5 stars.
