Mankind (A Poem)

Omavi Mafujo Ndoto
Anno domini
Twenty thousand zero odd seven
Twenty first century
Because we humans just can't count right
So we started this all wrong
And we err even now
What is the reason
Or maybe there is no reason at all
But still the story moves one
And still the story moves on
And still the story is jaded
And told from the most skewed of minds
History is of the victor
And it is the victor's story to write
Such is the tale of the unknown scribe
The poor and downtrodden
Voice silenced by the more powerful hand
History
Is not my story
So here is what I will do

Create
Contemplate
Regurgitate
The feelings of my past
As I neglect not his-story
But I fill in his blanks
with the remembrances of my mind
And the mind of my people
As they passed all this down in voice
And in the written words
That survived the culling of all we are

Now don't mistake this for ethnic ramblings
My people
Spitted me so long ago
I no longer have a family
Save my connection
To the human race
Save my adoration
Of strong hand and feet
And I see no color
Black, white, red, yellow, brown
Come together
As blank in my mind

This is about a people
Of multi-colored hue
Forgetting the basic instincts
Of what we should really do
At some point
We forgot that together we rise
And apart we fall
Political games that transcribe
All the things that are wrong
Power plays
And empirical moves
Meant to change history's view
But the past only is concerned
With what the past was meant to do
And the future
Is only a tumorous growth
That began so long ago

Do you understand me

Well let me break this down simply

We was
We are
We will be

We was of human family
We are of the present most revered entities
We will be
What we learn from the predecessors
What we understand of this reality

No longer do we stand in solidarity
Fighting amongst ourselves
For resources that don't really care
About what we will be
They exist
They provide
And they become exhausted
And we
Will have a step price o pay
Disrespect the world
Disrespect the natural flow
And like the dinosaurs
Into the annals of extinction
We will become the leading chapter

Such is our stupidity

Such is our disrespect
Of all that is true and pure
But purity has never been the word
That pure tongues could pronounce
Or that pr minds could understand
we just understand strength
But not the true strength in human spirit
Just the power of the gun
And the power felt by violent hands
Tribal expressions
Feudal displays of need
Empires are built without the recognition
That everything falls

Even pride

Even life

Even the purity of reason
Yes even reason falls too
When not properly nurtured
When not feed
The needed nutrients
Reason dies
And then
Animalistic demons we become

And we are happy
To feed of the excrements of our deeds
Eating shit
And calling it the richest chocolate mousse
The exemplary excrement
That sweetens that sugar tooth
Yes we drive our big SUV's
Burn every available fossil fuel
Kill every being
Who does no conscribe to our thoughts
The greatest of all
But we are the worst
Of them all
The most ignorant
Self serving
Stupid
Homo superior-superior
But even the smallest amoeba
Is superior
To what we truly become
Just scum
Cockroaches
Viruses
Killing everything we touch
Defiling every single thought

Even time
Even space
Even
Mind

We kill slowly
And so softly
Until
Nothing survives our touch

Such is our greatness
Such is the greatness
Of
Man
