Mankind's Dedication: The Separation Between Man and Beast

Drew
Mankind's foundation lies in it's readiness to pursue a concept, even if this pursuit means enduring great pains and losses. This prophecy of future consequence separates man from all other life forms. A moose of smaller than average size for the species may be, along with others of similar sizes, ostracized and not able to mate. Unlike, for instance, little people campaigning for awareness and non-discriminatory treatment, the moose do not react with foresight. If humans did not posses this quality of pursuing a concept with such perseverance, the race would not have become the most influential on the planet. If mankind lacked this motivation, domesticating and training other animals would exist only as a non-possibility, as well as ending discrimination and intolerance. The importance of this trait defines mankind and remains of chief importance to the progress of the species.

If mankind did not posses this trait of perseverance towards a possibly distant goal, man's path through history would have developed to a present and future involving much less global presence and influence. An example exists in the pilgrimage from Europe to North America by seventeenth century humans. Other animal species have migrated for reasons such as food or climate, but none other than humans have done so to avoid persecution and go to a new land for promise of freedom. No other species have cultivated the land to grow crops for later use. The quality of suffering and enduring losses for a mere concept, which remains rooted in the future rather than the present, exhibits potential for greatness. When only one species of beings out of the entire classification of life possesses this trait of perseverance, dominance becomes evident. Humans have become dominant throughout history chiefly on behalf of their willingness to suffer and die for a distant cause. If humans were not willing to suffer and die for a concept, mankind would remain among the other species as peers. In my own experience, I have found suffering to preserve the possibility of a concept remains a frustrating process. When one person becomes frustrated with pursuing their ideals, the framework of society begins to deteriorate. A society should operate as a function of the ideals of the community within it. If individuals do not express their ideas, whether because of sloth or fear of suffering, society cannot progress. With mankind's progress at a standstill, and society wired into a survival trip, only concerned about their immediate well-being, man's future will exist bleakly, with no positive progression.
