Manny Ramirez Claims He was Totally at Fault when with Red Sox Regarding Behavior

"It Takes a Real Man to Admit That..."

Manny Ramirez is a real man, just ask him. Ramirez was with the Los Angeles Dodgers since July 31, 2008. He did not leave the Boston Red Sox on the best of terms.

Ian Browne has posted an article on the White Sox website titled "Manny apologetic about end of Boston tenure." And, he is apologetic, after a fashion.

Typically Ramirez is not a talkative fellow nor is he big on criticizing himself. However he was willing to do that while the game between the Chicago White Sox and Boston Red Sox was in a rain delay. Ramirez said that his departure was his entire fault and then was quoted in the article as saying "but you have to be a real man to realize when you do wrong." I may not understand but it seems to me that Ramirez is congratulating himself on his willingness to say he is wrong. In other words the behavior was poor but since he is willing to admit the behavior is poor he is a real man and because he is a real man that exonerates him from the poor behavior.

The same statement comes up when he talks about getting into a fight in the dugout with Kevin Youkilis. As proud of that as he should have been he should have been even prouder about shoving 64-year-old traveling secretary Jack McCormick. Again he said that he apologized to Youkilis (not McCormick) and that it took a real man to do that.

However, when push comes to shove (no pun intended) when asked if he would do things differently Ramirez said essentially to leave the past in the past. That to me says whether or not a person is really sorry about what they did.

Why is Manny's behavior an important topic? Coming to the White Sox Manny Ramirez represents a number of players in all pro sports who see themselves as the iconic center of their team. In Ramirez's case he is a very good offensive player but he definitely leaves something to be desired on defense and he is getting older.

Is Manny Ramirez a good addition for the Chicago White Sox? I think not and further I think Ramirez's comments were scripted. That is the only way they make any sense.

as a native old Bostonian - he never grew up and never will - he failed to live up to his word and a contract. A man knows his word is his bond.
