Much speculation was made over whether the former Dodger would chop his famous dreadlocks or buck the system, again. Instead, Manny will get a trim, compliments of the friendly barber of the pros, Angel Pena.
Aside from his freshly trimmed dreads and sporting No. 99 in his debut with the White Sox, Ramirez went 1-3. He managed to rack up one single in his former home of Cleveland against the Indians.
The final score was 6-4. The game produced a three-run homer by Paul Konerko off pitcher Germano. When Ramirez took his final at bat, the White Sox sat nice with a 5-4 lead. In the eighth, he was pulled for a pitch-runner. End of the night for Sir Manny.
Better known as Monster 99, the barber to the sports stars is scheduled to deal with Ramirez's tresses on Thursday, meeting him on his day off in Boston.
Pena wants to keep Manny looking like Manny, without a change that's too drastic. Yet, hopefully the sportsman's barber will give Ramirez the edge he needs to conform to Reinsdorf's policy of, well, short hair. Short hair? No way!
Ramirez seems to be right in step with the Chicago team, cooperating with Guillen's requirement to warm up and be present on the field for the national anthem.
Fireworks are big in Chicago and the combination of Ramirez and Guillen couldn't be more exciting. Guillen feels that in spite of the attention, Ramirez's quirky personality will not be an issue with his ball club.
The Manny effect. It's spreading.
