Man's Best Friend or Man's Worse Enemy?

Between Friday and Sunday Morning, a four raging pit bulls descended on Dallas. According to the dallasnews.com the pit bulls, who was caught by authorities on Sunday attacked three different individuals beginning with Dost Aryan on Friday morning. Aryan, who is 63 years old, was attacked by two at the same time just outside of his home. The two dogs are being held, and will be put to sleep if their owners do not come forward. On Sunday morning an 8-year-old boy was attacked by another pit bull named, Poncho. The attacks ended with Frank Ybarra. Ybarra was walking his dog near his home when a fourth pit bull attacked them. Ybarra, and the 8-year-old boy, received minor bits while Aryan was almost ate alive.

According to Dallas Regulations on animal control, the owners will be fined $50.00, and authorities have the right to declare if the animal is dangerous or not. Two of the owners have already been cited, while the two pit bulls that attacked Aryan have not come forward.

In June of 2010, myfoxdetroit.com reported another pit bull attack. A Sterling Heights woman was attacked while outside with her pets. This attack occurred right as Detroit was considering banning pit bulls from the city.

The Sfgate.com reported another attack involving a 2-year-old boy who was viciously attacked by three pet pit bulls on the 22nd of July. Than another attack back on the 1st of June, when a stray pit bull attack three people at Golden Gate Park.

According to Dogbitelaw.com in 2007, 33 people were killed in the United States because of dog bites. That number dropped by ten in 2008, when only 23 people were killed, but went up again in 2009 when 30 people were killed by dog attacks. Out of all of those attacks, Pit bulls are considered to be responsible for a third of all those deaths.

Considered to be extremely, good watch dogs, Petsdo.com has listed the Pit Bull as the number one most dangerous dog. Pit Bulls are known for mauling people to death, and unlike other animals will continue to fight until its foe is dead. Originally from the United States, the pit bulls weigh in between 55-65 pounds, can easily tear apart any size human being.

What makes the pit bull so dangerous is possible its human counterpart. All dogs can be vicious, but the way an animal is raised has to be considered. Was the animal trained to attack, or were they trained to play nice? No matter how an animal is raised, it is still an animal. The fact remains, that animals do kill, and man's best friend can become man's worse nightmare.

I have personally been stalked by a neighbors pit bull who got loose. When I went and told the man who's wife owned the dog, he turned white. That dog scared him to death. He was a man in his 50's, plenty of time to get over a fear. I'll never forget the experience. Had to share :)

I shudder at stories like this. Feel so bad for the parents and the kids who were attacked. Pit bulls, they are unpredictable, and with jaws like that, it's not worth the gamble. Once an animal does this to a person, they need to be put down I think, sad as it is for the owners. Nicely written Theresa!

I do not blame you. Pits are natural fighters, and are used in dog fighting more than people think. Given any dog, the wrong move can turn them against you. Pits are just natural fighters. Thank you for your comment.

We live next door to two pits that were rescued from an illegal dog fighting ring. Both of the dogs have been rehabilitated and are friendly. I still wouldn't turn my back on them - given the life they had to lead with cruel humans before being rescued. cheers ;)
