Dogs and cats in this Texas shelter are waiting for their current or future owners and staff is responsible for the housing and sheltering for the animal control agencies of McKinney, Frisco, and Farmersville.

Since the Collin County Animal Shelter opened in 2006, it has sheltered all lost and stray pets for all areas that the county handles which includes all incorporated areas of Collin as well as the towns of Anna, Celina, Fairview, Lavon, Lowry Crossing, Lucas, Melissa, Nevada, New Hope, Princeton, and Prosper.

The shelter is located at 4750 Community Boulevard, Collin County Justice Complex in McKinney and the phone number is 972-547-7292. (Email: animalshelter@co.collin.tx.us).

There is no adoption fee; only to spay and neuter. The shelter gives bordatella and distemper/parvo shots so you will need to have rabies, spay/neuter, and heartworm test done at the vet of your choice.

For questions about adoption, call Lisa Drummond at 972-547-7298.

There are also urgent dogs at the Irving Animal Shelter in Irving, TX located at 4140 Valley View Lane (972-721-2256 or 2259). Transport options are available.

Help is also needed for a young cat who recently gave birth to a kitten though the kitten disappeared. KitsNKats Rescue is assisting with collecting donations along with the person who found the feline to try to find her an inside home. Vetting money is needed along with extra money to help care for foster needs. A chip in has been set up but you may donate gift cards through the rescue also for pet food for the cat. The vetting is needed as soon as possible so a clean bill of health can get the feline started for a home, says the woman who found her.

Dogs and puppies in Tennessee need your help right now after PetSmart Charities® Rescue Waggin' rescued almost 100 dogs and puppies and one cat from a puppy mill recently.

"Many of the dogs were so filthy and matted it was difficult for us to even tell what breed they were," said Leighann McCollum, the state's director of the Humane Society of the U.S., the lead agency in the rescue effort in a mass email.
