Marble Slab Creamery the Shops at Bass Pro Kodak/Pigeon Forge, TN

Gayle Crabtree
When you visit the Bass Pro Shop you will want to take the time to look at some of the shops that are there. The shopping complex is in Kodak, TN but many people mistakenly refer to this area as Pigeon Forge since the shops are in close proximity.

One of the popular businesses among the Shops at Bass Pro is Marble Slab Creamery. Here, you will find some of the best homemade ice cream in Tennessee. On the day that Hubby and I visited we found the staff person to be friendly and helpful.

We had several questions. He answered them all and explained how they mix in the toppings that you choose. You select your ice cream. Then, they put it on a cold marble slab and stir in the toppings (thus the name, Marble Slab Creamery.) You can choose from nuts, pieces of fruit or other favors. They have quite an assortment. The end result is delicious.

Deciding which flavor to get was hard. They have many to choose from. All ice cream is made fresh in the store. The server also told us that they roll the waffle cones by hand in the store. I was pretty impressed by that.

After a sample taste, Hubby wound up getting the strawberry ice cream with additional fresh strawberries mixed into his cup of ice cream. I also took a cup over a cone. My selection was cheesecake and then I added the graham cracker crumbs. It was a warm day. The ice cream hit the spot.

There's not much to say about sitting space at the Marble Slab Creamery. A few small tables adorned the lobby. You are welcome to take it with you as you stroll along the sidewalk though.

You'll be happy to know that they have other products as well. They serve milkshakes, banana splits, brownies, cookies, floats and more. These treats must be good. The ice cream that they are based on is excellent.

As for cleanliness, the Marble Slab Creamery sparkled. The front door was free of handprints. The glass display case and the counter behind it both appeared to be very clean. I didn't see any problems there. The Health Department gave them a 97 on their inspection date of 1/06/2009. It's hard to ask for better.

The only downside of our visit to the Marble Slab Creamery was the parking lot. It takes a minute to find them. They are on the backside of the building. The lot does seem to have adequate parking though.

But for ice cream like this, the Marble Slab Creamery in Kodak is worth the effort to find!

I've never heard of it, but it sounds similar to Cold Stone.
