Marc Anthony

The performer who has made a name for himself as a salsa and Latin music artist was born on September 16,1969 in New York City to Puerto Rican parents. Marco Antonio Muniz is better known today as Marc Anthony (and the husband of Jennifer Lopez). Anthony was named for the Mexican musician by the same name.

Anthony was never formally trained, his only musical education came from listening to Latin music and R&B at home and whatever theory and composition knowledge he could gleam from his father. At the age of 12 Marc Anthony and his sister were "discovered". They began singing back up for various performers including the Latin boy band Menudo on one of the band's albums.

Considered a skilled songwriter Anthony has been writing music since he was a teen ager. Marc Anthony released his first album "When the Night is Over" in 1991. The album was a Spanish language album of Latin hip-hop styled music. It wasn't until after Anthony had released a number of albums that he finally released the first English language album in 1999. The album included the hit song "I Need to Know". Marc Anthony appeared at Madison Square Garden with Latin music great Tito Puente when Puente celebrated the release of his hundredth album. Since his first album in 1991 Marc Anthony has sold over 10 million records world wide and has become the top selling salsa music artist of all time. Along the way Marc Anthony has collected Grammy and Latin Grammy Awards; as well as, 16 Premio Lo Nuestra Awards - the most Lo Nuestra Awards won by any artist.

Besides being a Latin music artist Marc Anthony is also an actor who has appeared in several movies including "The Substitute", "Carlito's Way", "Big Night", "Hackers", and "El Cantante" in which he appeared with wife Jennifer Lopez. Marc Anthony has also performed on Broadway.

Most recently Marc Anthony has been in the entertainment news for his marriage to fellow Latin musician and actor Jennifer Lopez whom he married in 2004 just four days after the divorce from his first wife Dayonara Torres was finalized. Earlier this year Anthony and Lopez became the parents to a set of twins - a boy and a girl. While the twins are a first for Lopez, Anthony has three children from two previous relationships - his ex-wife whit whom he has two children and an ex-girlfriend with who he has one child.

Away from music and entertainment Marc Anthony is an avid golfer.
