March 9 is Now Samuel L. Jackson Day in Shreveport

While filming in Shreveport Louisiana Samuel L. Jackson Visited The Head Start Kids and gave them more reasons to achieve their dreams.

During his visit here in Shreveport Many have claimed to have spotted him. Some say he played Golf on a public Golf coarse. This Myth was discussed on the morning radio shows throughly. Was it really him? We all wondered. He was spotted on the riverboat casino. Or was that a myth too?

After the devastation of the Gulf coast. Many filmmakers are finding Shreveport The perfect place for film making. So the rumors of celebrity sightings come in and out of the Shreveport's conversations like urban legends. Someone spotted Jessica Simpson at Dillards one after noon and soon everyone was asking who was she with and what was she wearing. My favorite question was " Is she airbrushed in real life?". We are a bit hard on the individuals who entertain us. We analyze their lives as models for our own. And when they fail it is posted for everyone to read.

Yet, when members of our American royalty takes time away from their artistic performance duties to give a little back. The story must be told.

Mr. Jackson was asked to speak to our Head Start kids. He agreed the date was set and oh what a treat it was to see his generosity.

His Introduction included quotes from Martin Luther King Jr. And Robert Frost. This formal introduction did not match the speech of Mr. Jackson. Yes, He was cool and smooth but at the same time he was so down to earth and relaxed. He project the feeling of familiarity not superiority. He seems like the kind of guy you would invite to a barbecue or your child's birthday party. He put his hands in his pocket like a nervous grade school boy. While his face gleamed with excitement. He spoke to the children about becoming anything they wanted to be.

He said that he had perfect attendance from 3^rd grade to 12^th grade and he achieved a Bachelors degree because he knew that education was the steeping stone for any achievement that he would make in life. He also said he has maintained one marriage though his adult life and has never been arrested. He gave a message of hope and achievement.

He spoke of his wife and daughter with home based pride. He said his daughter Zoe Had recently became a chef. He states this with the same fervor as if she had been elected president. He mentioned how proud his mother was of him as if he had hit the lottery. Samuel L. Jackson spoke to Shreveport Louisiana's Head Start Kids like they were his nieces and nephews sitting across the dinner table.

As the morning began to get warmer his outdoor speech was wrapped up. It was announced that Mr. Jackson had a agreed to take picture with the children. He was awarded hand made gifts from each of the classrooms. He held a poster made by one of the classes with pride. Each one of the children had Put their hand prints and personal messages on a poster for him. He did not need to say thank you. His facial expression was enough. Giving all the children the impression that the were important to him. Yet, one gift seemed to surprise him today march the 9^th has now become Shreveport's official Samuel L. Jackson Day. It seem Mr. Jackson now knows how much the citizens of Shreveport appreciate him.
