March Holidays, Traditions and More

Ali Canary
In like a lion, out like a lamb: March's blustery winds subside into the gentle warmth of spring, and young men's thoughts turn to love and possibly the wet t-shirt contest at Cabo on spring break.

Monthly Observances

March is National Craft Month, as well as the National Month for caffeine awareness, cheerleading safety, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome awareness, "Clean[ing] Up Your IRS Act" (which would include memorizing some lines, I assume), colorectal cancer awareness, ethics awareness, eye donors, frozen food, Multiple Sclerosis education and awareness, kidneys, nutrition (how does that fit in with frozen foods?), social work, umbrellas, and women's history. It is also National On-Hold Month, so listen to some crappy music while doodling.

March is the International Month to Expect Success (perhaps "Work at Success" month might be a little more fruitful), as well as the International Month for ideas, listening awareness (what?), and mirth (okay, got that covered).

Weirdest Holiday: What if Cats and Dogs Had Opposable Thumbs? Day, March 3rd. Um, yeah, I have often wondered this myself. At least as often, I've wondered why we didn't have a special holiday for it. Now I'm wondering how you would celebrate such a holiday. Oh, and now I'm wondering if people have just lost their damn minds completely.

March Traditions

Flower: jonquil - domestic happiness, friendship

Birthstone: aquamarine, bloodstone - courage, wisdom

Pisces's gem: aquamarine

Zodiac sign:Pisces (1- 20) and Aries (21-31; see April for details). Of course, Pisces the fish is a water sign, with the characteristics of intuition and adaptability (think of water quickly taking the shape of its container). Pisceans are sensitive and devoted, but tend to be dreamers, so make sure your head isn't stuck in the clouds, little Fish! Best friends: Scorpio and Cancer. Best love matches: Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn.

Famous Birthdays: John Irving (2nd), Mikhail Gorbachev (3rd), Michelangelo (6th), Ivan Lendl (7th), Prince Edward (10th), Liza Minelli (12th), Albert Einstein (14th), John Updike (18th), Bruce Willis (19th), Ovid (20th), Flannery O'Connor (25th), Diana Ross (26th), Cy Young (29th), Eric Clapton (30th).

This is a great series! My birthday is in March, which is why I commented on this one...but I like that you're doing one for every month!

The Catholics take the month again!

Oh yes, we celebrate What if Cats and Dogs Had Opposable Thumbs? day every year. LOL Fun and interesting read, as always!

If dogs & cats had opposable thumbs, we couldn't keep them out of rooms or in the house... they'd have that secret doorknob principle covered! And the fridge! I mean, it's just all over once our dogs & cats can start opening doors, windows, cans, refrigerators, turning on the stove, calling their friends long distance. It's the end of the world as we know it, folks! Abt those dreamy Pisces, I've been married to mine (3/9) nearly 34 yrs (& me, like Maria, a Leo!). Then we created a new one, 3/17/76. And our Sagittarius daughter has been w/ her Pisces guy awhile. We're surrounded by them! Ours are brilliant creative guys, but not a very sociable lot. Definitely introverts compared to their fire sign mates. Oh, yeah, Bat.... March 30th.... St. DODO???!!! *snicker, snort, sputter* You made that up, right? ; )

I always enjoy these. My brother and husband are Pisces. I keep telling them to get their heads out of the clouds...

These must be a lot of work, but also a lot of fun! I appreciated the work "That-Which" goes into these detailed pieces!

I'm not observing March this year. But thanks. ll
