March Means - Tax Preparation Time

Tony Payne
I really do enjoy the Spring
And many things that it does bring

But March is not a month when one relaxes
I always dread having to file my Taxes

One look at the forms, my mind is a boggle
Taxes for me are far from a doddle

I am so confused and often confounded
I normally have to use an accountant

But this year is something of a commotion
Last July I chose to cross the ocean

So now I am back in the land of my birth
But the IRS still wants to know what I am worth

It doesn't matter that I paid my tax over here
Uncle Sam still wants me to pay him his share

I am very confused as I read between the lines
Which forms do I fill in, will I run out of time

I'm very reluctant to pay more than I need
And as I am poor, for a rebate I plead

I spent three months in Florida without any work
And another three here, I was going berserk

Then a job I found, which pays less than before
But at least it seems to be a lot more secure

Having turned fifty, finding work is an art
I don't want to end up a greeter at Walmart

With April approaching, I have several weeks to go
Before the time to file from the UK really runs low

I have been searching on Google for quite some while
Trying to find information on just how to file

I found an IRS address at the Embassy in London
Hopefully they can help to resolve my conundrum

So I sent them an email, and hope to find out
How to file my return without screams and shouts

It's an annual chore that is something I am dreading
Especially this year, when it's just before my wedding

So please wish me luck, with filing my return
Being an ex-pat means more lessons to learn

Good luck Tony! I can't imagine how it must feel to be in your shoes!

Len and I are English. I was born in Maidstone, and he, in London.

We have lived in Florida for 22 years now.

We both get old age pensions from England, and he get a Royal Air Force pension.

These are taxed in America, but not as social security.

Our friends that bring in good social security don't pay any tax, and we pay a fortune.

Living in another country really hurts you financially.

    Good luck.

It's not easy is it. I always used an accountant in the USA, because the tax forms just boggled me.

That made my day. We file in both the US and Norway. US taxes are much more difficult.

I used to file for two states; I really don't want to think about filing for two countries! Good luck!
