March Spring Time Festivities in New York

Regina Sass
With the luck of the Irish and a bit of help from Mother Nature, spring in New York will be early, no matter what a certain rodent in Pennsylvania has to say, and New Yorkers and visitors alike will be ready to get our and do anything outdoor related. Just any event that will help shake off the winter doldrums, And of course any event in New York is worth the time and effort to attend, so what ever you choose, you will be in a spring time mood in no time at all.

The 7th Annual South Street Seaport Irish Stroll

Get an early start on St. Patrick's Day at the South Street Seaport on the evening on March 11, 2007. The event starts at 1Pm at pier 17 and there are 13 restaurants and bars participating with discounts on beer and some great food. Leave the kids home for this one, but make plans to bring them back to the seaport another time. They will love it, but not on this night. Bring 2 cans of food for City Harvest and get $5 off the admission.

Don't forget the big one, the parade of parades on St. Patrick's Day, when 5th Avenue turns green. The parade steps off at 44th st and ends at 86th. Grab a place in line, and enjoy the music and give an extra cheer for the Fighting 69th. They have had a rough time in the past years.

For the antique lover in everyone there are three antique shows going on in Manhattan in March and true Antique hunters will make all three.

The first one is at the 69th Regiment Armory, Lexington Avenue at 26th Street. http://www.stellashows.com/cgi-bin/texis/scripts/showpromo_info/stellashowdetail.html?idnum=ZJD1463&showabb=grampark20020216
This one has a special theme with all forms of antiques, but only from the 20th century.

The armory is host for the next show also and you can benefit the Brooklyn Botanical Garden by attending the Preview Party Thursday Evening and in keeping with the flower theme, all the antiques will be garden related.

March 9-10-11, 2007
Friday and Saturday 11am-7pm, Sunday 11am-5pm

And the third is considered one of the best. It certainly is one of the biggest by far drawing large crowds every single year. And it is a good way to spend the rest of St Patrick's Day after you escape from the parade. Be sure to bring your camera. This one has celebrities from all walks of life looking for a smart buy. That says volumes about the quality of the merchandise the vendors have here.

SHOW HOURS: Saturday 9-6, Sunday 10-5
PIER 94, 12th Ave., @55th St., NY

And there is something special for the whole family going on at Madison Square Garden, a spring tradition in New York City for many years, the Ringling Brothers and Barnam and Bailey Circus. http://www.ringling.com/

So for a Month that is considered in between seasons, March in New York is sure jam packed with things to do. Can you imagine what will be coming up in the following months?
