I have several friends that have attended Mardi Gras over the years and each of them have enjoyed it in different ways. One of my friends loves to do trips on low budgets and basically enjoyed the festivities from the streets of St. Charles Ave. I must tell you the crowds are large and it is down right crazy. For hotel options they stayed at the Holiday Inn Express and used there AAA discount while booking.
Another option is two book reservations with a restaurant package that lends you the opportunity to enjoy the Mardi Gras parade from the balcony of the restaurant. It includes a beautiful buffet breakfast and lunch and pricing starts around $50 per person at the Cannon's Restaurant. Visit http://www.cannonsrestaurants.com/mardigras.html for details. Michaul's has the ultimate in location and packages, breakfast, lunch, dinner or full day parade packages are available at many different price points. Alcohol, taxes and gratuity are included in the pricing and did I mention the location is great. Visit http://www.michauls.com/mardigras.html for details.
My personal favorite is choosing a all inclusive style package like the one offered at Dauphine Orleans, which includes a 4 day 3 night accommodation, two tickets to ride on a parade on Feb 23, 2209, refreshments, two tickets to the after party at the New Orleans Convention Center, complimentary breakfast included and a welcome beverage coupon for cocktails at the May Baily' s Lounge. For details visit http://www.dauphineorleans.com/packages.shtml
You see, enjoying the experience of Mardi Gras can be done at any price point. It is probably one of the most sensational events that New Orleans has to offer. It truly feels like a weekend getaway and the memories you make will be enjoyed for the years to come. I do not recommend bringing the children as this is the type of event that should be enjoyed by adults only!!
Happy Travels!
