Mardi Gras Party Games

Mardi Gras is right around the corner and if you are planning a party you have to have activities. People want to think they are in New Orleans having fun on a cheaper budget. Once the food and the drinks start pouring out you need to keep them entertained. Here are some great ideas!

First you can start with a costume contest if you wish to have people dressing up. Dressing up will add to the authenticity of the event. For this you will need the following

  • Glass Bowl
  • Pieces of Paper
  • Poster Board
  • Craft Supplies

To play you will need to indicate on the invitations that the party is a Mardi Gras costume party. Then you will want to set up a table with a glass bowl and some pieces of paper for everyone to vote. Threw out the night people can come and vote and give them a time line by say 8pm all votes must be in the winners will be announced at 8:30pm. Next decorate a piece of poster board that is Mardi Gras inspired and list all of the categories people can win in. Award prizes for best costume, most original, most colorful, most ridiculous, best design etc.

You may also opt to do Mardi Gras Carnival Games now you can use your imagination with this one but here is a good start. You will need the following.

  • Mini-Golf
  • Mini Bowling Pins or Soda Bottles
  • 3 Baseballs
  • Small Plastic Pool
  • 2-3 Dozen Apples

To play decorate the area with balloons and other Mardi Gras decorations(Masks, banners, signs, confetti) Use mini bowling pins, the baseballs, or soda bottles for a bowling game, and the pool and apple for a bobbing for apples game. Then set up the bowling game by lining the pins up or 10 partially filled soda bottles with water in a triangle. Place the baseballs in front of the game, fill the pool with water and apples, and set up the mini golf game. Make sure to establish a point system for each game. Have the kids (or adults) start at one of the games and as they finish each game they go onto the next. The winner is the one who gets the most points.

Now some other games to try that are available in stores are New Orleans trivia, Who Got the Baby Card Game, and Mardi Gras Madness. You can also create a fiesta Limbo and Carnival Charades.

Now Prizes may be kind of tricky so depending on the game being played you can always give away a Mardi Gras Crown or hat, Candy Gold coins, Champagne or Wine Gift Basket, beads and even masks.
