You have everyone in the one place, family, friends. Now what? well how about a few games! heres a few ideas that can be done cheaply, or for free!
A Game For The Kids:
Musical Carnival caps! a similiar game to musical chairs! An adult takes control of a stereo, the kids form a circle, Caps are given to all but one of the children. When the music starts the caps are passed form head to head. When the music stops the one without the cap on, is out of the game! and so on! On a personal note make sure you have small prizes for each child(maybe some sweets) as they are put out of the circle, that way everybodys a winner and no hard feelings! Alternatively as this is a Mardi Gras party use masks!
A Traditional Game For All Ages:
This is a personal favourite: Pancake Party! Get a bell, ring it, then serve your guests pancakes!! This is similiar to the "pancake bell" which used to be rung on shrove tuesday in churches. Now for the interesting part! arrange a game of who can eat the biggest pancake first! the winner gets a kiss from the oldest in the host family. Or alternativly bake a King Cake, which has a small doll inside, whoever finds it is crowned king and must host the next King Cake party!
A Game For The Teenagers!
Beading: For the older kids prepare a beading activity. Purchase beads and some string! of all differnt colours and sizes, mix them together and let the kids create their own creations! Then get them to exchange these bead necklaces, armbracelets etc. with each other!
A Little Bit Of History Game:
Doubloon sorting! provide the younger kids with doublins (shiny coins from Mardi Gras) that they have to sort by colour and design whoever sorts there pile first gets a prize!
A Game For Kids (or adults!)
Paint a paper bag with traditional images then hang it from a tree. Line everyone up blindfold the first volunteer! everyone spins them around then they are given a baseball bat and they have to swing wildly into the air to hit the bag! they only get one shot! the bag should be filled with sweets and doubloons!
Who Am I?
Stick a piece of paper to the back of Guests as they arrive! These pieces of paper have the names of famous people on them. Guests have to guess who they are by asking questions like "Am I still alive" or "Was I a President!" people can only give yes or no answers. The prize for the first to discover who they are is a bottle of wine!
