Margaret Cho Bombs Coming Out Samba on Dancing with the Stars Season 11 Story Night

Margaret Cho Doesn't Improve in Week 3 of DWTS Season 11

Tamara McRill
Stand up comedian and actress Margaret Cho received the lowest score in week three of Dancing with the Stars season 11. For Story Night, Cho and partner Louis Van Amstel chose a coming out story, although the interpretation really was a little muddied in their dancing. The dancing may not have went over well, but the DWTS judges loved the message.

Story Night Dance Preparation

Cho was a little harried and distracted, having to juggle DWTS dance practice with her comedy tour. The comedian expressed confusion on how to control her facial expressions.

She described their story dance as "an expression of pride, happiness and joy. Coming out as beautiful, coming out as me."

Although the dance was meant to as a celebration, Cho admitted to feeling more frustration. She saw a definite need for more rehearsal and focus.

Margaret Cho's Week 3 Dance

Cho and Van Amstel danced a samba, to the tune of Barry Manilow's Copacabana. In a literal embodiment of the song, Cho stepped out in a tall yellow feathered headdress. A fringed, one-shouldered, rainbow dress topped of the gay pride theme. (Actually not as nightmarish of an outfit as it sounds.)

While the dancing was lacking in many areas, it culminated in streamers and a cheering crowd.

Cho & Van Amstel at the Judges Table

The Dancing with the Stars judges didn't appear to be as excited as the crowd--about the dancing that is. The message was enthusiastically embraced. Bruno Tonioli told Cho to keep waving the rainbow flag. But...it looked like she "had too many drinks my darling."

Len Goodman thought the beginning hip action was encouraging, but didn't quite see the story in the dance.

DWTS judge Carrie Ann Inaba loved the story, but thought they lost control of the dancing. She cautioned Cho to work on her arm movements.

Cho commented that their dance was the gayest thing to ever happen on Dancing with the Stars.

Cho Becomes Impassioned Before Getting Week 3's Scores

DWTS hostess Brooke Burke wondered if the funny side of Margaret was coming back. Cho said she hoped so, before seriously tackling their story.

An impassioned Cho stated that they, "Wanted to celebrate pride, wanted to show ourselves off. It's a tough time for the gay community. A lot of gay teenagers have committed suicide, so we want this to end now!"

Cho and Van Amstel received straight sixes from the judges, for a total of 18 out of 30 possible points. The same score they were awarded last week. That also gave them the lowest score on DWTS season 11 week three, at one point less than Bristol Palin and Mark Ballas.

Audrina Patridge and Tony Dovalani earned the highest score of the night, a 26.

The Dancing with the Stars season 11 week 3 elimination show will begin Tuesday night, at 7 p.m. central, on ABC. We will see then if Margaret Cho's fans voted to keep her in the competition.
