She's been to three dance rehearsals so far, and now, she writes, her "whole body hurts." She says she has a "fabulous" partner. Of course, she's not going to give away who he is, but she does say that he is "the greatest one!!!" I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that her partner is Maks (Maksim Chmerkovskiy), if for no other reason than he would be the one most likely to *tell* his partner -- repeatedly -- that he was the greatest.
People who only know Margaret Cho from her disastrous, short-lived sitcom "All American Girl" may not realize just how brilliantly funny she is. The role she played in "Girl" was very subdued. Her real personality burst out in her 2000 film of her solo performance, "I'm the One That I Want," one of the funniest films I've ever seen.
Cho likes to push boundaries, and her humor is outrageous, somewhat self-deprecating, sexually explicit, and laced with four-letter words. It will be interesting to see how she manages to tamp that down enough to pass muster in the world of prime-time ballroom dancing.
I'm also eager to see what kind of chemistry she will have DWTS host Tom Bergeron. Bergeron is another one of my favorite comics, but his style is the polar opposite of Cho's. He's a master of deadpan and understatement, saying the funniest things with an almost completely straight face. Cho is over-the-top and in-your-face. They are both so talented, and I think their opposing styles could mesh well. They could be the yin-and-yang of ballroom comedy.
In a news item posted on Cho's website, she writes "I've got some mean stripper moves and I can pick up a dollar with my butt, however the Viennese Waltz is all new for me!" Her blog post about her rehearsals is even raunchier, and there's not much I can quote from that on this family-friendly site. I do recommend that you take a look. It's unsafe for work -- not even so much because of the language, but because you will be laughing so hard that you will distract all your co-workers.
The premiere of the Fall 2010 Dancing With the Stars is on Monday, September 20.

Post a CommentAwww, I SO wish it would have been Maks...that would have been awesome! Margaret Cho is awesome, and I love her quote about the stripper moves...lol! I remember the first time I heard her real, uncensored stand-up--my hair turned white, but I couldn't stop laughing! *G*
Update: The partners have been announced, and Margaret's partner is Louis Van Amstel.
