Margaret Moore Booker's "The Santa Fe House"

Author Margaret Moore Booker will sign books and give a fireside chat about her new book, "The Santa Fe House" on Saturday, Dec. 12 from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. in the Central Lodge of the Bishop's Lodge Ranch Resort & Spa.

Ms. Booker will also discuss Archbishop Lamy and his home on the grounds of the Resort, and the Archbishop's influence on the architecture of Santa Fe. Tours of the chapel will be available upon request after the talk, and hot cider and tea will be provided.

The book presents 40 architecturally rich and picturesque houses, ranging from the earliest one-story adobe structures, with flat roofs and an emphasis on utility and simplicity, to today's "Santa Fe style," showing deep roots in Pueblo Indian, Spanish, Mexican, and Anglo traditions. It includes the best of the "Territorial style," introduced by newcomers from the East after 1846, as well as a variety of ornate Victorian architectural styles.

All-new color photographs by Santa Fean Steve Larese show Santa Fe's most beautiful houses as they have been carefully preserved today. Historic black-and-white photographs, maps, drawings, and other original illustrations further enhance the architectural story of this hugely popular tourist destination.

Margaret Moore Booker is a resident of Santa Fe and the author of numerous books and articles on art, architecture, and women's history. She is coauthor of Sea-Captains' Houses and Rose-Covered Cottages: The Architectural Heritage of Nantucket Island (Universe/Rizzoli).
