There are 3 Mariachi's locations that I know of: one in Glasgow, KY, one in Tompkinsville, KY, and the one that I'm reviewing, the one in Edmonton, KY.
The menu:
Mariach's offers a wide variety of Mexican food. Foods on the menu include: taco salads, burritos, chalupas, taquitos, a shrimp and rice bound together by cheese mixture, the Burrito California(steak strips, vegetables, a sauce, and cheese in a big tortillia), steaks, etc.
One of my favorite deserts of all time, the fried ice cream sundae, is available here.
You have the option to either eat in or take out your food. When you take out your food, you call in to the restaurant and place your order. The people who take your order usually tell you 10 minutes. When you get to the restaraunt, you go to the cash register and pick up your order and pay for it. Prices of the food range between $4 to $12. The $12 being for things like steaks. Then you can go home and eat! The food comes in aluminum containers with aluminum covered paper lids. The containers are designed in such a way that as to make a good plate so you don't have to waste water to do dishes or have to throw away another paper plate. The only time that I don't use the container that my food comes in is when I get a steak. The container won't hold up to a steak knife.
When you eat in the restaraunt, you just walk in, sit down, and wait for the waiter to come and take your order. The waiter is almost always right there so you don't have to wait very long. The only time that you have to wait is when the restaraunt is full. This happens everyday close to lunch and dinner time, so I always try to go there in off peak hours. When you eat in the restaraunt, the food portions are always a little larger than when you take out.
The look of the place:
From outside Mariachi's, the restaraunt looks like a dingy, hole in the wall with fading paint in the colors of the Mexican Flag. Inside, the floors look a little old and the walls are covered in bright, Mexican decorations, clothes, a flag, and a map. The place is kept very clean. In my experience, the places that look bad usually have very good food.
My favorite dishes at Mariachi's are the Burrito California, the shrimp, rice, and cheese mixture (I can never remember it's name), and the taco salad. all of these cost between $5 to $8. The burrito and the shrimp thing are too much for me to eat in one sitting-even when I take-out. The taco salad is a bit smaller than it was a year ago, but It's just the right size for when I want to eat less.
The food is good when the usual cook is in,but when the owner comes in to cook, the food is really good. The owner always adds a generous portion of things like cheese and meat. Yummy!
I definitly recommend coming to Mariachi's if you are in the area.
