Marie Osmond: Dancing with the Stars Family Favorite

Can the Underdog Prevail?

Christi Bowers
Marie Osmond is a family favorite on Dancing with the Stars. She could actually end up winning Dancing with the Stars Season Five! So much has been going on in her life lately. First she fainted on live television after her performance in Week Five of the Dancing with the Stars competition. Then, her family was to celebrate its 50th anniversary in the entertainment industry. During this time, her father, George Osmond, passed away.

Why is it that Marie Osmond is so popular? You could chalk it up to her family history. The Osmond family has always been popular for entertaining, and they have become a household name for those young and old over the years. The Osmond Brothers are popular, and Donnie (her brother) and Marie have also been well known as an entertaining duo. I personally remember them from back in the 1970's.

I think there is more to Marie Osmond than just her family. She just has this sort of pizazz that everyone is looking for. She is sexy, but in a wholesome way. She can get away with seductive moves on the dance floor because of her family values. She ties it all together with an incredible smile and an attitude that she can accomplish anything. Men love her and women like her. So she has everyone's vote.

So, does the underdog Marie Osmond have a chance? Here are five reasons why she might win:

1. Marie Osmond just fainted on national television. Why does that mean she will win? It got everyone's attention. It's like having a successful article on associated content. It's not always because you used great literary form or spent hours spellchecking your grammar and coming up with enchanting metaphors. Sometimes it's just about who wants to read what you're writing about. If you have an article about Britney Spears the week she shaves her head, you might get many page views. Not because of your brilliance, but because you wrote on a popular subject.

So what does this mean? It means that the eye is on Marie Osmond. She stands out of the crowd because she created such a stir. See if you can imagine any other live television event recently with a single person that grabbed so much attention in a single day? No one has yet forgotten that Marie Osmond fainted, and it won't be soon that anyone does.

It's not great for her, in terms of Dancing. She probably is quite embarrassed by the whole thing. But, it may add to her popularity and help her get votes. Not just sympathy votes, but genuine votes.

2. Marie Osmond's father George Osmond just died. Again, it has something to do with what people search for and what is going on in the news. Everyone knows that Marie's father passed. Everyone is talking about it. So, this makes you think about her when you go to vote on Monday night after watching Dancing with the Stars. You're more likely to vote for her, because her name is on your mind.

3. The sympathy vote. With all the drama Marie Osmond has had to endure, the kid deserves a break! Many may vote for her because they just love her, and wish her well during these trying times.

4. Popularity vote. It's no secret that talent alone doesn't always win competitions. Go back and look at history. You can even look at the history of Dancing with the Stars. Emmett Smith, who won Season 3, was certainly not the most talented dancer. Mario Lopez had been dancing all of his life. He had talent oozing from everywhere within him. Yet, Emmett took home the trophy. He did a great job, but his popularity and flair gave him the ultimate success. It doesn't hurt that he had a great partner in Cheryl Burke.

5. She does a good job. It's not just all about the Osmond popularity, the Osmond family, the Osmond issues, and everything else Osmond. It also has to do with the fact that Marie is doing a good job. Did you see her in Week 7? She got a perfect 30 score on her first dance! Her partner, Jonathan Roberts, works very well with her.

Yes, Marie has some stiff competition. Who can say anything negative right now about Spice Girl Melanie Brown and her partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy? And look how Jennie Garth has become such a hot number with her partner Derek Hough! Then, you've got Helio Castroneves and Julianne Hough to content with, with his wonderful smile and endless energy. Finally, there's Cameron Mathison and Edyta Sliwinska. Cameron is the daytime soap star, popular with the women, and he comes out with such passion and aliveness each week, that he puts up a strong competitive fight.

But Marie Osmond, she's got along going for her. Her dancing is improving, she winks at the crowd, she smiles, she aims to please, and she just WON'T GIVE UP! She's got spirit, and you would never guess she's almost 50 years old. Marie Osmond is like the Osmond biography, full of adventure, spunk, and a lasting Osmond legacy. Good luck, Marie Osmond!
