Marie Osmond Discusses Son's Sucide on Oprah

A tearful Marie Osmond had her first public interview on the Oprah Winfrey on Thur. Nov.11,2010 discussing her son Michael's suicide. Marie Osmond's teenage son Michael, jumped to his death from an 8th floor window of a Los Angeles, California hotel on Feb.24, 2010. Marie was finally ready to talk about this very sad story but stated this was the one and only public interview she intended to give about Michael's untimely death.

In the tearful, heart wrenching interview, Marie Osmond said her son jumped to his death because of severe depression, which she herself suffered from after the birth of her last child. She said she had talked to Michael earlier in the day and knew he was having problems. He had told her that he didn't have any friends. She said she tried to reassure him that he was loved and she would be down to see him on the following Monday. A tearful Marie Osmond said "Depression doesn't wait until Monday". Later that evening Micheal took his own life by jumping from the 8th floor window of the hotel he was staying at in Los Angeles.

In the hour long Oprah Show interview Marie talked about the problems her son Micheal had throughout his short life. She said he had been in and out of rehab since the age of 12 dealing with drug abuse and depression among other things. Marie also put to rest the rumors about Michael being gay as a possible reason why he may have committed suicide. She reassured the viewers that her son Michael definitely was not gay.

Michael left a suicide note on his bed stating the reasons he was doing what he did. In the note he expressed the love he had for his family and friends, among other things, Marie said. She said he had planned this suicide throughout the day, according to the note.

Marie ended the show with a beautiful song, a loving tribute to her son. Her brother Donnie Osmond also made a tribute during the show to his wonderful sister, Marie. There weren't too many dry eyes in that theater during that show and I bet there were a number of viewers at home dabbing their eyes, also.

Suicide seems to be running rampant among young people this past decade. In the small community where I live, we have had a number of suicides in the past few years. If you notice signs of sudden withdrawal or depression of a loved one, please help them to seek professional help before it's too late. Help may be just a phone call away, so don't hesitate to pick up that phone and use it. It could be a lifesaver for a family member or a friend.
