Losing a child is the hardest thing a parent can go through. You always think, "Maybe I should have done this, or that" and "I could have stopped this." In many cases, that is just not possible. While it is heart wrenching to watch this proud woman cry on national television over the death of her son, it is understandable and you know, that even though Marie Osmond has lived an almost charmed life when compared to the rest of us, that what she tells Oprah Winfrey is truly heart-felt and is not an act.
Marie Osmond's son battled depression and spent time in rehab. He took his life by jumping off of a roof and plummeting to his death. Now, eight months after his death, Marie Osmond joins Oprah Winfrey to discuss what happened. It was her surviving children that urged her to go on national television to tell their very private story.
Marie Osmond has gone from a shadowy figure on the outskirts of popularity to regain the spotlight after appearing on Dancing with the Stars. While she was on Dancing with the Stars, she went through several family crises, including losing her father, her son Michael's attempted suicide and subsequent admittance to rehab, and a very public divorce. Coming from a traditional Mormon family, the divorce was made even more painful with the additional pressures from her personal life.
Donny Osmond also appeared on the Oprah Winfried show to give his thoughts on Marie Osmond's son's death. Donny Osmond has stood beside his sister and the brother and sister duo have always been close. The year after Marie Osmond appeared on the Dancing with the Stars, Donny Osmond took to the Dancing with the Stars stage himself. Donny and Marie are closer than ever as they have reentered the entertainment field with aplomb and grace.
On the Oprah Winfrey show Donny Osmond spoke to his sister and said, "You are inspiration not only to world, but to me. I love you." Not only did his touching statement bring tears to Marie Osmond's eyes, but to Oprah Winfrey's as well as the audiences'.
"Laughter is the greatest gift we have," Marie Osmond states, "It is a great thing we have to relieve that pit in your heart."
Marie Osmond read from her son's scrapbook and again the tears fell as Michael's words were spoken. "With a positive mindset you can accomplish anything." With a positive mindset, may Marie Osmond continue on her courageous journey of remembering her beloved son who left to soon while growing in mind and spirit for her family and fans.
