Marie Osmond Remarries Her Ex -- Realistic or Risky?

Is Remarrying an Ex, a Good Idea?

Memmay Moore

Marie Osmond has some happy news to share. Marie, 51, recently remarried Stephen Craig, 54, her first husband. The two were first married from 1982 to1985 and have a 28 year old son, also named Stephen.

Marie's new husband, Stephen Craig was a famous Brigham Young University basketball player in his day, and later a professional basket ball player. He works now as a motivational speaker.

Marie was also married to music producer Brian Blosil from1986 to 2007. That marriage brought seven children to the family; two biological and five adopted. The marriage ended in a bitter divorce, with Osmond charging Blosil with physical and mental abuse.

The past few years have been stressful for Marie. Career wise things have never been better. She and brother, Donny have been performing regularly in their hugely popular Donny and Marie show at the Flamingo Hotel in Las Vegas .

Marie, who has battled weight problems, has lost 50 pounds. She now is spokesperson for the Nutri System weight loss program. She was able to wear the same wedding dress she wore at her first marriage.

She has had her own talk show and sells a line of dolls on the shopping channel.

But the sunny smile hides her demons. Besides her failed marriages, Marie has battled depression, and financial problems. She seems driven to provide for her huge family.

But it was the suicide last year of Marie's 18 year old, adopted son, Michael that brought Stephen Craig back into Marie's life. Craig has been a source of support for Marie and a father figure to all her children. The couple had remained friendly since their divorce.

They chose May 4th as their wedding date to commemorate the birthdays of Marie's deceased mother, Olive and Marie's late son, Michael.

Other celebrity couples have remarried after divorcing. Elizabeth Taylor remarried Richard Burton. Natalie Wood and Robert Wagner remarried, as did Rapper Eminem and Kim Mathers, Melanie Griffith and Don Johnson, Lana Turner and Stephen Crane. Even crusty Judge Judy Sheindlin and her husband divorced and remarried.

Unfortunately, the statistics are against couples who remarry. More second marriages end in divorce than first marriages. Psychology Today says that 60% of remarriages fail and they do so more quickly.

Marie Osmond says that she and Craig were just "too young" when they married the first time, and that they never "stopped loving each other."

Hopefully this "second time around" marriage will last and bring Marie the happiness she deserves.

Great article! I remember the first wedding. I thought it was so beautiful. All her bridesmaids had different color pastel dresses and it was a big bridal party. I was so sad when they got divorced. Maybe enough time has passed for them to remember how much they really love each other. I sure hope so.5*

I wish them the best, but I find it interesting that nothing much has been made of the fact that they blamed his repeated infidelity as the reason for their original breakup.

What does the re-marriage say about Marie's decision making process?

It's usually NOT a good idea, but over the decades people mature and learn from mistakes. Perhaps this will work out for her.
