What the Bible Says About Herbs

The discussion of the herbs are about what they are, what is done with them. Some of the verses need the whole chapter to define the herbs or plants. Flavoring is often made from herbs. Some of these flavorings are spices, seasonings, spirit and sauce. Most herbs are to eat in some form or another. However, medicine is made from herbs.

In the Easton's Bible Dictionary, the definitions of herbs are any green plant, vegetables and all green herbage. In addition, any green herbs or the fruit of some plant, at dictionary.com, the definitions for herbage are the succulent parts, leaves and stems and of herbaceous plants. Succulent means: full of juice, rich in desirable qualities, affording mental nourishment, also (of a plant) having fleshy and juicy tissues. Herbaceous means: pertaining to or characteristic of an herb, not woody, herb-like, (of plants or plant parts), having the texture, color of an ordinary foliage leaf also grassy, equiv. to herb.

Although there is questions that marijuana is one of these herbs. However, according to the medical dictionary at dictionary.com marijuana is not one of these herbs. When studying herbaceous it said pertaining to or characteristic of an herb, not woody, herb-like. The medical dictionary says, the marijuana definition states that it is HEMP, the dried leaves and flowering tops of the pistil late hemp plant. Hemp definition is a tall widely cultivated Asian herb of the genus Cannabis with strong woody fiber used especially for cordage. Cannabis mean: the hemp plant, Cannabis sativa, the flowering tops of the plant, any of the various parts of the plant from which hashish, marijuana and similar mildly euphorogenic and hallucinogenic drugs are prepared. It is unlike these herbs that are not woody. The words Hemp or Cannabis are not in any scripture in the Bible.

The scriptures are just touched on to describe what they say about the herbs. Not all of the verses from the Bible are here.

Exodus 12:8 (Whole Chapter) and with bitter herbs they shall eat it,

Deuteronomy 11:10 (Whole Chapter) as a garden of herbs,

1 Kings 21:2 (Whole Chapter) Give me thy vineyard, that I may have it for a garden of herbs,

Psalm 105:35 (Whole Chapter) and did eat up all the herbs in their land,

Proverbs 15:17 (Whole Chapter) Better is a dinner of herbs where love is,

Luke 11:42 (Whole Chapter) for ye tithe mint and rue and all manner of herbs,

Hebrews 6:7 (Whole Chapter) and bring forth herbs meet for them by whom it is dressed, receive blessing from God,

The bitter ones that are to eat are in these bible scriptures. The dried ones and wither herbs. Also the herbs of the fields, vineyard, even a garden of them are listed. They are rich in desirable qualities, affording mental nourishment also having fleshy and juicy tissues. All of these kinds of herbs are to eat.
