Marijuana: The Tastes of a New Generation

Cooking with Marijuana

Gino Sabato
Cooking with marijuana is not quite as simple as breaking up buds and leaves and mixing them into your brownies, cookies, etc... There is a little bit of science it and for fantastic results it is well worth the extra effort to do it right. THC is fat soluble this means that the active ingredient in marijuana sticks to fat. One of the best sources of cooking fat is butter. So our goal is to make marijuana butter for use in cooking and baking.

There are several ways to go about preparing marijuana butter. There are many variations and you can toy with different aspects of this recipe so long as you stick with the basics. If you decide to leave the marijuana in the butter or add flavorings and other seasons is fine so long as you make sure to keep the temperature of the marijuana butter as close to 250 degrees as possible. If the butter is not hot enough you will not extract enough THC, if it is too hot you will destroy the THC.

Anyway lets get down to the fun stuff.

What you will need:

8 Sticks of Butter
1 OZ of the highest quality marijuana you can afford
1 Medium sized sauce pan
1 Sieve (if you want to remove the buds and leaves from the butter
1 Glass container large enough to hold your finished product

What you need to do:

(1) Get your sauce pan on the burner of your choice.
(2) Place all 8 sticks of butter in the sauce pan and turn it up to medium heat.
(3) Clean any seeds from your marijuana (There shouldn't be any!)
(4) Once the butter begin to melt put the marijuana in the butter and mix well
(at this point you can add salt or other seasonings you wish.
(5) Allow this mixture to simmer for 15-20 min. (Don't let it get too hot turn it down a bit if you have to)
(6) Remove the saucepan from the heat and either pour directly into the glass container (or)
Pour the mixture through the sieve. Once you have all the marijuana separated from the butter squeeze any excess liquid out of the marijuana into the glass container.
(7) Place your glass container with the marijuana butter in the refrigerator until it hardens.

You can now use this butter in place of regular butter in any recipe you like.

Have fun and keep in mind that when eating marijuana the effects are different from smoking, take longer to set in and last longer as well.
