Books! The brain food for the aquarist seeking the essential tools, while enabling them to discover a wealth of information, ultimately leading to their success in the beautifully entertaining and rewarding marine hobby. Their are so many influential and experienced authors out there, that finding a book to help support the actions of each aquarist while providing beneficial feedback and knowledge is as simple as visiting your local book store, pet shop or online venue. We can all better inform and educate ourselves on the aquarium hobby as the advancements and technological breakthroughs have taken the world by storm in the past few years especially.

Yes, it is true that you will have to browse through the myriad of books on the salt and freshwater hobby as repetition can be encountered. Their is no point in purchasing a book that explains the basics of setting up an aquarium if you are a seasoned veteran having been in the hobby for many years. Nor is it advantageous to select a book that depicts photographic images of the same types of reef, marine or freshwater fish. If you have seen one Yellow Tang(Zebrasoma Flavescens) or Cardinal Tetra( Paracheirodon axelrodi), you have seen them all, in my opinion. Why not focus all that unnecessary attention and money by branching out and diversifying your though process and expanding your cranium power by opening up to other books that are not as broad in topic. Specialized books that are more geared towards technological advances or specializing on a narrow subject such as cyanobacteria, algae, sand beds, water parameters or feeding. Nothing like increasing knowledge by experiencing and learning about one of the other variables that comes into play when dealing with the underwater realm.

Books by the likes of pronounced and distinguished authors, biologists, aquarists, zoologists and researchers run the gamut in terms of offering us the needed knowledge to help us advance in the aquarium hobby and become more successful along the way. Honorable names in this enjoyable and fascinating world of below the air/water interface include, but are not limited to, Robert Fenner, Herbert Axelrod, Eric Borneman, Julian Sprung, Anthony Calfo, Charles Delbeek, Scott Michael, Steve Tyree, Martin A. Moe, Michael Paletta, Robert Shimek, John Tullock and S. Fossa. Each author has a unique and beneficial thought process to unvail to its readers and the results will be witnessed in due time. Some of the best books on the market to offer the aquarist a well diversified portfolio of books for their library are "The Reef Aquarium" Science, Art and Technology by J. Charles Delbeek and Julian Sprung, "The Conscientious Marine Aquarist "by Robert Fenner, "Aquarium Corals" by Eric Borneman, "Reef Invertebrates" by Anthony Calfo, "Marine Fishes" by W. Scott Michael and the many books by Herbert Axelrod regarding freshwater fish and aquariums.

Taking the time to do your research, plan and take your time to do it right are keys to creating and maintaining the best aquarium possible with many years of enjoyment, awe inspiring beauty and entertainment. The aforementioned authors and books are just a sampling as their are many other pertinent authors and books on the market, not to mention the plethora of available online articles, forums and magazines to accentuate your knowledge. I would focus your efforts on what you plan on doing with your aquarium and how advanced and technological you plan to get before selecting a book, as some books focus their attention to detail in one or more areas that perttain to you, while other have no significance to you or your aquarium biotope.

Best of luck to you and if you have been in the hobby for years...I hope you continue to receive and realize the efforts of your dedication, conscientious mentality and enjoyment now and for many years to come as the times are always changing so keeping up with all the advances and refraining from cutting corners and speeding up mother nature will help to ensure you and your livestock will thrive and be successful in a captive environment.
