There are certain things that should be done before going to Marine Corps boot camp in order to be ready for the 12 weeks ahead. Many would say that getting in shape is the most important aspect to be ready for; I will have to disagree and say that getting ready mentally is the most important factor before shipping off to Marine Corps boot camp.
Be mentally ready by knowing what you are getting into. There are many individuals that believe marine Corps boot camp will be easy because they are in good physical shape; the truth is physical fitness is only one of many challenges faced in basic training. Recruits have to deal with a different environment, isolated from the outside world, having to adapt to a bunch of people they had never met before, being away from home for the first time. The challenges are many and the Drill Instructors will make it their goal to make every challenge very difficult. They have to make sure the Marine Corps will be provided with basic ready Marines that could potentially be sent into combat at any moment.
The physical aspect of Marine Corps boot camp is very important as well. Recruits will be pushed to their limits and beyond. There will be a lot of running around the Marine Corps Recruit Depot. Upper body strength is also emphasized since Marines in combat may have to carry a full load up to 80 pounds or more, so countless pull ups, push ups, and more exercises will be an everyday routine to focus on upper body strength.
Graduating from Marine Corps boot camp is the one of the best feelings in the world. Being part of a world known Military organization known from battles in the past century is a true honor that no Marine ever forgets.
