Marios Schwab's Occult Fashion Collection at London Fashion Week

Schwab Brings Occult Symbolism to Fashion for His Spring 2011 Ready-To-Wear Collection

Marios Schwab showed off his Ready-to-Wear Spring 2011 collection this week during London Fashion Week. Schwab's collection stood out on the runway because it showcased the duality of women with a blend of soft and tough fabrics designed to enhance a woman's form. But that is not the only reason the seasoned designer stood out on the fashion catwalk. His designs were enhanced with occult symbols including pentagrams, the all-seeing eye, pyramids, soaring doves, Celtic knots, ankhs, spirals and so much more. Schwab has created a top notch occult fashion line with style, toughness and grace.

Schwab's collection combined both masculine and feminine qualities. The occult symbols on the clothing represent several facets of the masculine and feminine spiritual qualities practitioners of the occult have been using for centuries. The pentagram has held different meanings throughout the centuries depending on what group is using the symbol. Freemasons, pagans, and Wiccans have all used the pentagram for one spiritual purpose or another. Many see the symbol as a combination of the elements (earth, air, water, fire and spirit) while some other groups see the symbol as a representation for Gaia or Mother Earth. Other symbols in the Schwab's Spring 2011 Ready-to-Wear Collection stand for infinity, fertility, wisdom, divinity, peace, and rebirth.

Included in Scwab's occult fashion collection were slip dresses, short leather jackets, fitted dresses, flowing lingerie, and shirt/skirt pairs that were filled with occult symbolism. Many of the pieces in the collection had the symbol of the Freemasons, the Masonic square and compasses, which stood out among the other symbols. The symbols combine to represent "movement toward perfection and a balance between the spiritual and physical."

The color choices that Marios Schwab used in his occult fashion collection for London Fashion Week 2010 differ from the colors that other designers have been using. Metallics, bright bold colors and glimmering golds are not seen in Schwabs collection. His collection has soft turquoise blues, silky blacks, and ivory whites. The only bold color in the collection is a Halloween orange.

You can view the Marios Schwab's entire occult fashion collection here. My favorite is piece in the collection can be seen in picture #12. My least favorite pick of Schwab's occult fashion collection is #8 which reminds me of a walking jack-o-lantern.

Great article! I viewed the collection but I had no idea what the symbols were or what they meant. Thanks for filling in those gaps!
