Jesus' gospel is good news. Gospel means good news. Jesus said his gospel in 18 words. Credo (creed) means "I believe". Jesus meant his good news to be believed.
Jesus' 18 words are divided into four statements:
1. "The time is fulfilled." It's time. A new day can begin. Eternity can be ours. Here and now.
2. "And the kingdom of God is at hand." The realm of Abba is available and real. It for us to embrace.
3 "Repent ye." Turn from the wrongs you have done.
4. "And believe the gospel." Affirm 1. and 2.
We can turn from our wrongs because Abba is at hand. A new day can begin. This is among the earliest "Christian" creeds. It is the only one that comes directly from Jesus.
Who is Jesus?
We know Abba (his familiar and loving father) appeared to him and said, "This is my beloved son in who I am well pleased." And that the Spirit descended. So Jesus is Abba-infused. We know he speaks these eighteen words.
Two statements. Two commands. 1. Times are changing and 2. Abba's realm is at hand. 1. Repent and 2. Believe.
These words were delivered In the Holy Land. The land of all religions that emanate from Abraham.
This happened 2000 years ago.
The result:
Abba is available to us. We can have a relationship here and now by turning to Abba and allowing Abba to comfort us. We can confess our wrongdoing. If we believe, we can enter the new day.
Reread the verse. These may be the most revolutionary words ever uttered.
Abba's Way. Biblical. Mark 1:15. And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel. The most revolutionary 18 words in all history?
