Mark McGwire on Steroids? No Way!

Jacob Horn
Wow. That is all I have to say about the media's reaction to Mark McGwire admitting he used steroids. Everybody and their mom knew Mark McGwire had used steroids. When I first heard that he had admitted to taking steroids, I did not think anything about it. It would kind of be like Bill Clinton coming out and saying he had another affair with a different lady during his time in the White House. It would be like North Korea or Iran saying they have nuclear weapons ready to fire. It would be like Richard Nixon admitting a different scandal besides Watergate. None of these scenarios surprise anybody. I thought it would be the same way with McGwire. Everybody but the media must have known he was taking steroids. Either that or it was the slowest newsday ever because nobody was surprised by this except for the media.

The media's reaction will also effectively eleminate the chance of any other baseball player coming out to admit they used steroids. Why you say. Simply because a lot of other ball players who used steroids might have come out and admitted using steroids until they saw the media react the way they did. Most ball players are thinking the same thing I am writing, they all knew McGwire used steroids and figured this would not be that big of a news story and then boom, it became huge. I am not saying McGwire should get a pass on using steroids. I do believe steroids are overrated, I truly believe (even if using steroids) that it would be harder to hit a homerun in the 1990s and 2000s then it was back in 1940 and 1950. Despite the last sentence, McGwire should be punished at some level. I just feel that punishment has already been levied. He has basically lost all credibility as a baseball player. His homerun seasons have been thrown to the wind. At least he had the decency to come forward and finally admit that he used steroids. After the media's reaction I hope nobody else comes forward, and I don't think they will unless forced too.
