Mark Salling's Debut Album to Cause Gleegasms Everywhere

Gleeks everywhere have another reason to cheer because on October 12, heartthrob Mark Salling will release his debut album. As he told Ryan Seacrest, the album, entitled Pipe Dreams, will contain 11 songs from his catalog.

And Mark Salling is more than just a pretty face and hot body. The entire album is his own work, as he sings, plays the instruments, and produces.

On Seacrest's show, Salling debuted his single, Higher Power. Mark calls it a 'Kiss FM track' because it is very pop and radio-friendly. Perhaps Glee's character Mercedes was right when she observed, "I'm R&B. You're Top 40."

Higher Power has a bit of an old-school quality, reminiscent of Gloria Gaynor's I Will Survive. As one YouTube user observed, "it's like the Beatles meet cake." It has a sweet upbeat tune, though I'm hoping that the album will also include a few darker numbers to showcase the gritty quality of his voice.

Mark Salling's Similarities to Puck

Mark Salling, born August 17, 1982 in Texas, shares a few qualities with his Glee character. Like Puck, Mark Salling has no trouble landing attractive or high profile women. He has been linked with Glee co-star Naya Rivera, S.C. Johnson heiress Samantha Marq, Bachelor winner Vienna Girardi (which he denied), and more recently Selena Gomez.

And both Mark Salling and Puck know how to charm women through song. Who could forget the way Puck serenaded Rachel with Sweet Caroline or wooed Mercedes with The Lady is a Tramp?

Differences Between Mark Salling and Puck

Yet there are differences between Mark Salling and Puck. While Puck is Jewish, Mark Salling had a traditional Christian upbringing. And we can hear the religious influences in Higher Power when Mark sings about making peace with God or focusing on career.

And while Puck is a popular jock who initially joins Glee club against his better judgment, Mark Salling's passion has always been music. He can sing, play bass, drums, guitar, and piano. And while Puck often puts on a rough facade, Mark Salling is not afraid to show a softer side, as seen in his musical tribute to his Glee family.

And while both Puck and Mark Salling are devastatingly handsome, Mark did not always sport Puck's trademark mohawk. Salling had adopted the mohawk in hopes of standing out from fellow auditionees.

Glee's Mark Salling is "super stoked" about his upcoming album. And given his talent, charm, and widespread appeal, Mark's album will likely cause gleegasms everywhere.
