Mark Webber wins Monaco F1 Grand Prix and secures title lead

Formula 1 racing driver Mark Webber, has become the first Australian to win the Monaco Grand Prix since fellow-Australian Sir Jack Brabham back in 1959. Mark has also ousted Jenson Button from the F1 series lead. Button crashed out of the race early. This is also the first time since an Australian has led the championship since Alan Jones in 1981.

''To be up there achieving things that Jack Brabham achieved is special for me and difficult to take in just now,'' Webber said before starting formula one's most iconic race, which he led from start to finish.

''He is a legend in the Webber house and if it was not for Jack Brabham I would not be here now. My dad followed him closely and was a big fan - he always followed open-wheeled racing much more than what we call 'taxi-racing' at home. He has been an inspiration and a friend and he has done a lot for me.''

Despite some major crashes and safety car interruptions on the circuit, Webber stayed in front for the entire race, finishing unchallenged ahead of Red Bull team-mate Sebastian Vettel.

"Sunday was the best day of my life," Webber said after winning the race.

"I've dreamt of winning the Monaco Grand Prix since I was a boy and to do it from pole position was just awesome."

Coming so soon after Mark's win at the Spanish Grand Prix, there is no doubt he is riding a wave of success and hopefully will do so well into the future.

Sir Jack Brabham Award presented to Mark Webber in March 2010

On Friday, 26 March 2010, Andrew Papadopoulos, president of the Confederation of Australian Motorsport (CAMS), presented Mark with the Sir Jack Brabham Award. Mark was honored with the award by CAMS for 'outstanding talent and determination as well as a significant level of success in international competition'.

Celebrities joined the spectator crowds at Monaco

Celebrities who joined the spectator crowds at Monaco included Jennifer Lopez and her husband Marc Anthony, Mick Jagger, Gerard Butler, Michael Douglas and Paris Hilton.

J-Lo and Marc are reportedly staying on fashion designer Roberto Cavalli's yacht, sailing between Cannes and Monaco. She wore a cocktail length silver dress at Saturday's Vanity Fair party for Martin Scorsese at Hotel du Cap. Rumor also has it that J-Lo and Marc could be chosen as judges on Simon Cowell's new X-Factor show.

Mark Webber's recent success comes after many years of F1 racing. He is now reaching for the stars and the fact that Ferrari are after him to join their team means he is a "hot property" in the F1 racing arena.
