Mark Zuckerberg - Facebook's CEO ; on "Social Media" Movie and Opens Up to Oprah and Diane Sawyer

Mark Zuckerberg Offers 100 Million Dollar Check for Education Foundation

Candice
Could you imagine being a 26 year old nerd one day and the next a billionaire with a movie being made about your life?
That's pretty much what happened to Mark Zuckerberg, cofounder and CEO of Facebook.

On October 1, 2010 "The Social Network" will be released by Columbia Pictures, and Hollywood will give us their version of how Facebook was born. They will try to put their spin on it to make it 'more Hollywood", more dramatic and of course, more untrue by portraying Mark as an arrogant punk who betrayed his friends and classmates to have it all. see more about Social Network here and here;

Mark Zuckerberg told Oprah he was writing a $100 million dollar check for a Jersey Education Program. So, is this just a way for people to look at him in a better light after the movie will be making him look so bad?

Zuckerberg also talked to Diane Sawyer, and dismissed the upcoming Facebook movie "The Social Network" as fiction, though he also says he has no plans to see it. ABC posted the following clip:

Facebook says the movie is fiction. And so is the book it's based on - Ben Mezrich's The Accidental Billionaires.
Ben was pitched the idea of the book supposedly by one of Zuckerber's classmates who helped write some code for Facebook and is still angry about not getting his share of the social giant's pay dirt. According to those sources, that cofounder and Harvard student is Eduardo Saverin.

Zuckerberg has even said he won't watch the movie, but is it because it's lies, or because it makes him look bad?

I don't know, but giving $100 million to education is sure saying something.

Accidental Billionaires is the story of how Eduardo got so angry at Mark -- how, from Eduardo's perspective, Mark screwed him out of a huge chunk of Facebook stock. It's also the story of how Mark solved an early problem at Facebook, one that could potentially have prevented the company from becoming the global behemoth it is today.

The story is sourced from people involved in the founding year of Facebook, people close to Facebook, and documents viewed by Business Insider. It includes previously unpublished emails and instant messages between Mark Zuckerberg and early Facebook colleagues and confidants.

Facebook has over 500 million users world-wide. Investors value the company at more than $20 billion. Mr. Zuckerberg owns more than a quarter of Facebook's stock, and over 1600 people work at Facebook.

On Oprah, after Mark said he was writing the $100 million dollar check, he added that he wanted to do it anonymously, and Oprah said,
"you're crazy!"
So then Oprah says,
"So I'm going to follow Mark Zuckerberg's example and donate money to schools, too. Let's see, he's worth $6.9 billion dollars and donated $100 million, which is a little less than two percent of his net worth. Okay, that mean I'm writing a check for nineteen cents! Man, giving feels great!"

And about the Social Media movie:

According to ABC News, the company issued the following statement on the script:

We found interacting with Scott Rudin and his colleagues to be a terrific learning experience. They do a wonderful job of telling a good story. Of course, the reality probably wouldn't make for a very fun or interesting movie. As Aaron Sorkin himself has acknowledged. 'I don¹t want my fidelity to be to the truth; I want it to be to storytelling.'

See the trailer of "The Social Network" here.

The Social Network Synopsis: On a fall night in 2003, Harvard undergrad and computer programming genius Mark Zuckerberg sits down at his computer and heatedly begins working on a new idea. In a fury of blogging and programming, what begins in his dorm room soon becomes a global social network and a revolution in communication. A mere six years and 500 million friends later, Mark Zuckerberg is the youngest billionaire in history, but for this entrepreneur, success leads to both personal and legal complications.

So what's your take on this?
Is he a good guy made to look bad by Hollywood?
Or is he trying to make himself look better by donating $100 million to education to cover his guilt?

I saw the movie - it was actually pretty good. What Mark Zuckerberg did may not have been the best method, but what he ended up doing is amazing. No one would argue that it forever changed the society beyond the ways of our meager imaginations.
