Marked, by P.C. Cast and Kristin Cast

The Mark was a good book. It is like the Harry Potter for vampires. It book one of the House of Night series by P.C. Cast and Kristin Cast. It is different from anything I have read as far as vampires go.

The book is about a world that vampires and humans live together on the earth. They are not blood sucking vampires. If you are chosen to be a vampire they place a mark on your forehead. If the young vamps don't fully change into a vampire they will die.

Zoey is sixteen and gets the mark at the end of a school day. She goes to the school for vampires hoping to fit in somewhere, but she is different as soon as she gets there. Her mark on her forehead is fully colored in, when it is not supposed to be. She loses the one friend that she had when she was human.

They go to night classes where they learn all about what it takes to be a vampire. There's always a school bully and Zoey takes her on. Zoey is talked into joining a special club with the school bully, who is being trained to take over the school.

Zoey soon finds out that she has a gift that no one else has had for hundreds of years. She believes that she had been given the special gift to help her rid the school of the bully. To make things worse, she falls for the school's bully's boyfriend.

Zoey finally finds a place where she fits in and has true friends. There's still the fear that she won't fully make it through the change, made clear by her witnessing the death of two classmates. What will Zoey have to face in the next book of the House of Night series?
