On a recent shopping trip at Target, I noticed they had their own store-brand of frozen vegetables called Market Pantry. The bags of Market Pantry frozen vegetables were the same size and looked similar to Green Giant frozen veggies, only the Target store-brand frozen vegetables were much cheaper. Because times are tough right now and money is tight, I decided to go for the Market Pantry frozen vegetables instead of the name-brand ones. I picked up a bag of cut broccoli and a bag of peas, but there were probably about a dozen or so different varieties of frozen veggies to choose from.
The frozen peas we bought from Target were delicious! There were the same size, color, and quality of the Green Giant peas we were used to, and the cooking instructions were exactly the same. The Market Pantry peas were so much cheaper than the name-brand peas (almost $1.00 per bag cheaper), so we will definitely be going to Target to get more of those. The Market Pantry frozen broccoli, on the other hand, was a bit of a disappointment. I would say 90% of the chopped-up broccoli in the bag was pieces of stem, and there were very few broccoli florets in the bag. With Green Giant frozen broccoli, it is almost the opposite. This was very disappointing, so I will not be buying Market Pantry frozen broccoli from Target again anytime soon.
In the end, trying Target store-brand frozen vegetables was a hit-and-miss proposition. When the frozen vegetables were good, they were really good and on-par with name brands like Green Giant and Steamfresh. But when they weren't so good, they definitely left me wishing I hadn't been cheap and had just paid the extra buck to get my normal brand of frozen veggies. If money is tight, or if you're willing to experiment a little, then I think it is worth giving Market Pantry frozen vegetables from Target a try. But if you're a picky eater or only want to eat the highest quality of food, then I might skip the Market Pantry vegetables.
