Marketing Essentials for a New Business

Tools that Add Credibility to Your Business Name

Matthew Shively
If you are thinking about starting a new business or already own a business then these marketing essential tools should be at the top of your list in order to add more credibility to your business name. Why is this important you may ask? Well, in order to bring in business you have to have customers. In order to obtain and keep those customers your business name must have credibility.

I am going to briefly discuss the two most essential elements in any business to keep the credibility of your business name: the logo and the tag line. Both are very easy to create, but without them your company runs the chance of losing business at the end of the day.

The Logo

No matter what you do, remember this, the logo of a business places a brand on that business and is one of the most important elements that makes the business look more professional than any other. The logo will make your business stand out amongst the competition.

Think about it, when you're out shopping for clothes, do you go for your favorite brand? When you buy a purse or shoes do you buy your favorite brand of purse and shoes? Almost, everyone has a brand they love when it comes to something. This is the logo that makes the business name credible in the eyes of the consumer.

I am going to make this really easy for you. There are two types of logos that grab attention: a logo with only the business name and a logo with the business name and a picture or icon that represents the business. All you have to do to get started with your business logo is write down the personality of your business, favorite muted colors, and images that represent your business. Put all of them together and you have an eye catching logo that brands your business name. Congratulations!

The Tag Line

Outside of a good logo and business name that will brand your company a tag line is the next thing you need to do. Be careful though, a lot of companies use tag lines that do not describe their company at all, but rather state something fluffy. Fluffy tag lines that don't explain your company are no good. A good tag line will give a brief description of the services or product, the benefit to the customer, and may include a target customer. For example, an insurance agency may have a tag line that says, "Good Rates for All Drivers." This is a good tag line because it has a benefit to the customer and a target customer. Now you will notice, however, that there is not a description of the service. In this case there does not have to be because the company name, Insurance Agency, says it all. String them together and you have a description, self-advertising, tag line for your business. Congratulations!

Now that you have the two most essential elements in any business you need to place them everywhere your customers will see it: e-mails, newsletters, business cards, billboards, websites, etc... Good luck and don't forget that the credibility of your business name will either make your company or break your company.
