Marketing any new business can be a difficult and costly exercise especially when that new business is a home based one. As you do not have say a high street premises you have already lost foot traffic, and are so going to have to work harder to get your business out there and known by your target market.
Of course, when it comes to marketing your business you have to know who your target market is, so firstly, get to grips with the facts and figures. Who are your customers going to be? How many are there? What marketing medium to they respond to? And finally how much money do you have to reach them? Once you have the answers to these questions you will be able to move forward knowing that you have a solid base to work from.
TOP TIP: Get your marketing and promotional budget sorted as soon as possible. To get a rough idea for costing's, why not contact local providers of the marketing medium you require. Don't forget to include a contingency.
So now the finances and budget are firmly sorted out, you next have to start putting together a marketing plan. In this plan cover who you will be aiming your marketing at, what results you want to achieve, and most importantly you need to take note of how you will monitor your marketing efforts. More often than not small businesses put lots of ideas and campaigns out there and fail to monitor where the leads are coming from, this is truly a recipe for disaster as how can a small business save money yet reach its customers if it doesn't know where they are coming from?
Now all that is sorted out its time to decide what marketing mediums you want got use and implement within your marketing campaign. There are lots of marketing mediums you have at your very fingertips, from the power of article writing, to blogging, email marketing and of course your own business website. In addition to these, there are two things every homebased business should utilise, they are:
1.Twitter. Keep all your customers, and potential customers informed and up to date with what's going on in your business.
2.Facebook. Get your business a Facebook account. Give customers the opportunity to be your friend, and see first hand what you are up to, even if you are hundreds of miles away from them.
FINALLY A TOP TIP for marketing a home based business is: to try and give your business a face. There are too many impersonal home based businesses out there, so be different, let your customers know who you are, and put a face to the name. Having a face they can associate with a business will help build your customers trust.
