The Golden 39A can hold either twentysix .22 Short cartridges, twentyone .22 Long cartridges or nineteen .22 Long Rifle cartridges. If you choose to use the .22 Short or .22 Long cartridges, it is a good practice to completely clean the bore and chamber of the rifle before switching to the .22 Long rifle cartridge. The shorter cartridges can foul the chamber over time, making it harder to chamber the .22 Long Rifle ammunition.
Another feature of the Marlin Golden 39A that adds both to quality and price is the cut checkering. Checkering consists of the opposing lines that are cut in the American black walnut stock to form tiny diamond shapes that help
in maintaining a solid grip on the gun. Cut checking is more expensive to do, but provides a much better feel than the machine stamped "checkering" found on lesser firearms.
Now the Golden 39A is not inexpensive. Considering the quality of materials, machine work and fine finishing, the gun has to cost more than your average .22 rifle. Built to last and function for decades, the Marlin Golden 39A is well worth saving your pocket change to buy, even if it takes a few years.
