Marlowe's Restaurant: Creative Seafood, Martinis in Denver's 16th Street Mall
Best Restaurants on the 16th Street Mall in Denver: Marlowe's Restaurant Review
Denver, CO 80202
United States of America
Open for lunch from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM all week and serving dinner from 4:30 PM until 10:00 PM Monday through Thursday and Sunday, but until 11:00 PM on Friday and Saturday, Marlowe's is a much sought after lunch spot for workers in the surrounding office buildings. After work, these same workers often descend on the Denver restaurants located on and along the 16th Street Mall for drinks.
Always happy to meet the needs of its clientele, Marlowe's has one of the most popular happy hours on the 16th Street Mall - it lasts from 3:00 PM until 7:00 PM, Monday through Friday. In addition, this Denver restaurant has added a late night happy hour to cater to its after hours clientele; the hours are Sunday through Thursday from 10:30 PM until 1:00 AM and on Friday and Saturday from 11:30 PM until 2:00 AM.
Marlowe's caters primarily to the downtown Denver work crowds, sightseers, and those in need of libation during a tour through the clubs. It is not slated as a bona fide family restaurant (such as an Applebee's), and kids are not seen too often. Seating is offered indoors and out of doors, and the latter is a wonderful spot for people watching on the 16th Street Mall! If you are anticipating dining with a larger group, it is wise to call in a reservation ahead of time (303-595-3700), especially if there is a show scheduled at the Paramount.
In the past Marlowe's-much like the neighboring Paramount Café-was a staple in the world of American fare. In recent years, however, this Denver restaurant has changed course slightly and while burgers and fries are still high on the list of ordered lunch items, Marlowe's is one of the few Denver restaurants on the 16th Street Mall that has perfected a seafood selection that is much sought after.
Case in point is the Saturday Night Snow Crab Special which may set you back about $15 per pound, but which is sure to tickle those taste buds! For dinner you might also want to try the pan roasted Alaskan halibut which comes with lobster mashed potatoes and steamed asparagus. Lunch has its own temptation in the form of the blackened halibut fish tacos which are quickly becoming a local favorite.
Of course, many like to just come in and belly up to the cherry wood bar and take in the relaxed ambiance as well as one of the famous martinis! It is a little known fact that Marlowe's is one of the few restaurants on the 16th Street Mall that offers a Mezzanine for dining and also rents out this space. Plan ahead, and have an area there cordoned off for a larger group and avoid the hustle and bustle that sometimes makes conversation on the lower level a bit harder to follow.
Parking for any of the Denver restaurants on the 16th Street Mall is a bit of a crapshoot, and you will be wise to leave your car at the shuttle parking lot and either walk or take the Mall shuttle to Glenarm to avoid having to contend with one way streets and parking restrictions. Since Marlowe's does not validate parking, your only other alternative is to pay full price for parking at the Pavilions lot across the street.
