Marriage: Generalized

Fabienne Hernandaise
In the fast-paced world we live in today, we often forget to do the little things such as eat breakfast or about our son's soccer game. People who share common interests and develop a relationship often begin living with one another and continue to bond for several years. Then they forget to get married, or just find no need to anymore. This breaks our tradition as humans and symbolizing our love. Why just "be" with someone when one can marry them and achieve a greater level of happiness and security?

Knowing that one's significant other will go to extreme lengths to cement their union makes the connection grow even stronger. Marriage is the last step in a loving relationship. In modern relationships, people have now chosen to only remain in long term boyfriend/girlfriend, disrupting the Christian tradition of marriage followed by child bearing and raising. This raises legal, emotional, and psychological problems later in life such as inquiries about custody, troubled offspring, and vulnerability to other who seek to harm.

Today, "a rapidly growing number live together without marriage", this simple statistic can affect America's future and population. People who cohabit with one another are less likely to reproduce and further deduct from America's birth rate. It is because certain conditions are needed to rear children such as stability both in love and responsibility from both parents. These are absent in the case of people who "love each other" and decide not to take part in the marital process. Not only does it corrupt the child raising process, but it also creates an inaccurate figure of how a relationship should be. Children mimic what the see adults do, and therefore would be more likely to not get married as well.

Security is almost always accompanied by a sense of stability and happiness. This overall makes a person's life more complete, like reaching one's final destination. The state provides benefits towards married couples such as reduced taxes and reduced life insurance. The temporal issues surrounding marriage may not matter to many, but in times of distress such as a sudden death or illness, it plays a large role.

Why break tradition when it has functioned properly and efficiently since the times before Christ? Our world may be rapidly changing nowadays, but anything is possible to maintain alive if one works towards it. Marriage is sacred and should be celebrated elaborately, not be abused by thoughtless divorces. One cannot replicate a marriage and call it something other than it. A pact between two lovers and friends should be pronounced with a ceremony, marking the beginning of the rest of their passion.
