Marriage and the Truth Behind for Better or Worse

Learning to Trust God for Your Marriage Even when It's Falling to the Ground

Melissa B
Many of us have heard that marriage is hard. We have heard that marriage takes work and that it is not always easy to keep a marriage healthy and strong. We say our vows, for better or worse yet still holding tight to a fairy tale that worse will never come. So many marriages crumble because when the "worse" does come they are totally unprepared for it and don't know what to do.

There are many things life throws at us and things can change in a second. The worse in for better or worse simply means no matter how hard things may get, you have made a commitment to your spouse and God to hold strong to your vows. I can not tell you what life has in store for you or your marriage, but I can almost guarantee there will undoubtedly be times when the tension and stress is piled so high you can lose sight of the love you both shared on your wedding day.

However, sticking through the hard times together may just take your marriage to a new level of intimacy and oneness! It is in those desperate moments that uniting as one is so important. There is an enemy ever present in the world who would like to see nothing more than your marriage be devoured. He wishes to separate and divide you, pitting you both against each other. Let me assure you that sticking through the rough times will turn out to be a blessing in disguise.

With today's failing economy, many families are facing very harsh economic realities. A job loss may be just the start of a series of events that has the ability to separate and divide your marriage and household. But seeking God through these times and allowing Him to pull you both together during your struggles will create a safe haven for your family. The coined phrase "what doesn't kill you, makes you stronger" is pretty much dead on especially with in a marriage. The harder the times you face in your marriage, the stronger the bond gets and the more solid the marriage becomes.

There are countless testimonies of marriages who have gone through the dirt- everything from financial hardships, family losses, and adultery, who have in the end a beautifully strong, solid marriage because of it. It may seem as if everything is falling out from under you, and you may not even have your spouse on your side, but there is power in prayer and standing on His Word and Promises can bring healing and reconciliation no matter the circumstances.

If your marriage is in trouble, I highly recommend reading these articles. Visiting Faith and Marriage Ministries is also advised, as it is a wonderful ministry providing support for troubled marriages even after separation and divorce. If you have been touched by this article, please comment and let me know. One of my biggest passions in life is believing in the true covenant of marriage and helping those who feel the same calling over their lives and marriages.

In addition, I highly recommend the movie Fireproof staring Kirk Cameron. It is an amazing movie that sheds light on God's purpose of a lasting marriage. It is a life long commitment not a contract to be broken when party "A" doesn't follow through with the agreements made to party "B" You are husband and wife, made as one in the sight of God, and what God has joined together, let man not separate!

Excellent article, Melissa. It is so true that it's in the hard times that we grow the most and learn valuable lessons that make us stronger.
