Plan to Attend Marches, Parties and Contests in Memory of Martin Luther King Jr

Monday January 17th, 2011 will kick off the Martin Luther King Day march held in Columbus Ohio. The theme for this years Martin Luther Kind Day events is "Celebrate the Legacy: A Voice in the Crowd". The march will begin at City Hall in Columbus, Ohio at 4:45 p.m. Music, hot drinks and snacks will be provided to marchers, however, marchers are encouraged to wear several layers of warm clothing. Participants are encouraged to bring banners and signs.

The march will be followed by the Martin Luther King Jr. Day program at Veterans Memorial from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. This is a free event and will also include the Martin Luther King Jr. Day Youth Oratorical Contest and the 2nd Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day Call for Artists. Participants will enjoy music by the Eastmoor Mixed Ensemble Choir and the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Mass Children's Choir with dances performed by Ballet Met. There will also be actor's acting out civil rights events and vignettes of pivotal historic Columbus Ohio leaders.

The city of Columbus Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. youth oratorical contest will be held Saturday, January 15th 2011 at the Kings Arts Complex 867 MT. Vernon Ave. Columbus, OH 43203.

A Civil Rights Heritage Tour will be held by bus starting Feb 19th - 23rd, 2011. This event is sponsored by the Ohio Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Commission in collaboration with the City of Columbus Community Relations Commission. This bus tour will retrace the civil rights steps of Martin Luther King and other civil rights activists. Cost for the tour starts at 450.00 which includes admittance to the attractions stopped at by the tour, and hotel lodging for 4 nights.
