Free or Cheap Events to Celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day in Boston
Since 1638, when the first ship containing enslaved people of African descent first arrived in Massachusetts on the slave ship Desire, Boston has had a long history of African American history. Everything from slavery to freedom and beyond can be absorbed at Boston's Museum of African American History. What better place to Celebrate the great work of Martin Luther King Jr. day on January 19th 2009. The Museum is located at 46 Joy Street, Beacon Hill, Boston and admission is free.
While we are on the subject of African American History in Boston, you might want to take a walk along the Black Heritage Trail in Boston. To celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day you can visit various locations linked to African American Culture and history including the African Meeting House. Built in 1806 the African Meeting House is the oldest black church in America, what better place to reflect on the life of Martin Luther King Jr. on January 19th 2009. On January 19th 2009, the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston is hosting a special Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebration sponsored by the Citizens Bank Foundation. Highlights of this event will include films, activities and performances that will allow the spectator to reflect upon the life of the Reverend Martin Luther King Jr. The Museum is located at 465 Huntington Avenue and Admission is free.
Boston's Children's Museum will be celebrating Martin Luther King Jr. Day on January 19th 2009 with a special event aimed at the younger audiences. The highlight of the celebration will be a performance by the Children's Inspirational Freedom Choir at 1pm. Boston's Children's Museum is located on Children's Wharf at 300 Congress Street and doors are open from 11am to 4pm. Admission is $12 for adults and $9 for children.
