Martin Scorsese's 3D Holiday Movie: 4 New Hugo Movie Trailers

"Fix It", "Act Natural", "Wind Up Figure", "Drawings"

Aside from the hype about Scorsese & Hugo being his first 3D movie, I hadn't heard a lot about the movie, so it's great the studio released more movie clips because the steampunk visuals by Scorsese married with music by Howard Shore look like Hugo might be the sleeper hit of the holiday movie pack.

New Hugo Trailer #1: Fix It (48 seconds)
:

A distinguished Melies played by Ben Kingsley sporting a smart dark blue grey wool suit with thick matching vest pulls out a burgundy spotted handkerchief and with great flourish dramatically sets forth a few broken toy parts challenging Hugo played by Asa Butterfield to fix a wind-up toy mouse.

Amidst a backdrop of rich reds and woods in a turn of the century toy shop, Melies sets forth a cup of modest tools declaring with an astute accusation that's more observation than judgement "I know you've been saving parts from the shop. May as well use these that you haven't stolen yet".

Hugo greets Melies gaze straight on and an intense focus is captured in Butterfield's piercing blue eyes as Scorsese fill the screen with lush visuals of gorgeous metal and wood tools and a swirl of moving parts and gears as Hugo defiantly sets down the newly assembled toy mouse on the beige felt blotter. Kingsley winds up the toy and the mouse does a figure eight loop before raising itself up on its hind legs then coming to rest when Kingsley perfunctorily declares "You've got a bit of talent".

New Hugo Movie Trailer #2: Act Natural (54 seconds)
:

Upon spying a uniformed officer in a smart blue uniform, Chloe Grace Moretz who plays Isabelle advises Hugo to "Act natural, just keep on walking." Hugo in a quick attempt to disguise himself removes a navy beret from Isabelle's head and places it firmly on his head as if he could practically disappear into it. The pair wearing tweedy jackets and nubby striped wool sweaters walk past a suspicious gendarme who commands "You two, halt. Come here."

Isabelle politely addresses the official with a warm salutation, "Good day, Monsieur" as the suspicious policeman asks seethingly "Where are your parents?" Isabelle with bold confidence, self assuredly advises "I work with my Papa George at the toy booth, surely you've seen me there before?" Meanwhile, a menacing doberman who's with the gendarme sniffs Hugo's jacket and hand and growls suspiciously as Isabelle offers "This is my cousin, from the country, Hugo. You have to forgive him, he's quite simple minded, doltish really, poor thing" so as to offer an explanation for Hugo's wide-eyed scared expression.

New Hugo Movie Trailer #3 - Wind Up Figure (47 seconds):

Based on this clip alone, I'd go see Hugo just to hear Jude Law's charming accent coupled with his rapt enthusiasm as Hugo's Dad as he shares the magic of a large metal wind up toy. "What does it do?" inquires Hugo as he stands before a human-like metal figure with bendable arms as his father places a table in front of him. "He's a wind up figure like a music box. This is the most complicated one I've ever seen, by far." reveals Hugo's Dad, "This one can write. Magicians used machines like this when I was a boy. Some walked. Some danced. Some sang. The secret was always in the clockwork" as Law opens up inside of the figure to reveal the internal gears. "Look at that" he exclaims with wonder. "Can we fix him?" pleads Hugo. "Of course we can fix him" declares a be-spectacled Jude Law looking engaging in a striped shirt amidst the backdrop of a period set.

New Hugo Movie Trailer #4 - Drawings (52 seconds):

Hugo and Isabelle are clearly up to more mischief as Isabelle tiptoes on a wooden chair trying to reach for a heavy wooden box set in a hidden compartment at the top of a gorgeous wooden armoire. It seems most likely that the box was intentionally set out of the reach from prying children. As Isabelle reaches successfully for the heavy box, the chair leg breaks which causes the box of drawings to be strewn across the room in a magical dance of papers with gorgeous line and figure drawings revealed until a shocked and dismayed Melies played by Ben Kingsley opens the door and comes into the room.

Hugo movie clips previously released include "Big Machine", two theatrical trailers and a featurette with Martin Scorsese. All movie clips are accompanied by the wonderfully magical music of veteran composer Howard Shore.
