There are many different types of dog collars (i.e. pinch collars, adjustable nylon collars, collars with leather buckles) available for you to purchase today. In fact, there are so many different types of dog collars for you to choose from that it can actually become quite perplexing. However, one of the collars that really stand out from all of the others are the Martingale dog collars.

What A Martingale Collar Is

Martingale dog collars are specialized dog collars that are also known as a safety collar, a training collar, a humane choke collar, a hound or greyhound collar and a limited slip collar. Today these collars are growing increasingly popular amongst animal owners.

How A Martingale Collar Works

Whenever you put this collar around your dog's neck you will have a lot more control over him. This collar utilizes a loop system meaning that a loop will tighten around your dog's neck and then whenever you place tension on the leash your dog will not be able to escape. This is really important if you own certain types of dogs whose head circumference is smaller than the size of their neck (i.e. Salukis, Greyhounds, Whippets).

How To Fit Your Dog With A Martingale Collar

It is really important to ensure that the Martingale dog collars you purchase actually fit your pet correctly. If they are too loose then it is not going to tighten up properly and thus your dog can easily escape. Fortunately, most of these collars are adjustable, so you just need to purchase a collar that will comfortably fit within these measurements.

Using A Martingale Collar For Dog Training

Whenever you are using Martingale dog collars in dog training, make sure to purchase a nylon collar that has a loop in it as the loop will give you much more control over your dog without being as harsh as a choke chain collar. On the other hand, if you are looking for a cute collar there are a lot of colorful collars that are made from fabric and oftentimes have ribbons on them. In other words, your choices are endless.

One Final Note While using this type of dog collar you should never leave your dog unattended. This is because these collars have a loop on one that can get caught on something. You don't want this to happen because then your dog could possibly get injured.
