Maruchan Ramen Noodles Nutrition Facts

If you are looking for a cheap, fast, and easy to make meal you would probably think of Ramen noodles. Perhaps you will even think of Maruchan Ramen which is one of the most popular brands of this type of food product. However, if you are looking for nutrition in a meal, Maruchan Ramen noodles (or Ramen noodles in general) are perhaps not the best choice of food.

Maruchan Ramen are cheap so they are in the mind of thousand of people with less than perfect income. What this people do not know is that this product is not nutritionally sound. One reason: they are full of sodium (sodium chloride, salt) which has its cardiovascular implications. Additionally they are full of fat, starch, and has almost no protein.

All the information reported in this article was taken directly from the nutrition labels of some packages I bought for this assignment. I could not find the nutritional info on the Marucahn Ramen Web site.

Calories, Fat, Cholesterol, and Sodium content

The nutritional label says that you will get 190 calories per serving of Marucha Ramen noodles. The majority of these calories (70 calories) come from fat. Take into account that each package of noodles has 2 servings and you will see that you are getting almost 400 calories by eating one package of this product.

Each serving of noodles gives you seven grams of fat (14 grams total for a package). Half of that is saturated. The label reports no trans fatty acids on this product. Also, there is no cholesterol on this food product according to the label (this is because noodles are fried/cooked in vegetable oils).

Regarding sodium, its contents depend on the type of product you buy. The majority of the salt (sodium) is in the seasoning package so you can regulate sodium intake by using less seasoning.

Here are the sodium content of the main flavors of Maruchan ramen noodles:

-One serving of Chicken flavor has 830mg. So with one package you get 1600 mg (FDA recommends ingesting 2000 mg max per day)

-One serving of The Shrimp flavor has 850mg

-One serving of he Beef flavor hass only 790mg.

-One serving of The Pork flavor contains 950mg (the highest content of sodium in this type of products,

Carbohydrates, Protein, Fiber, Sugars

Each serving has 26g of carbohydrates, 1 g of fiber, 1g of sugars, and 5 g of proteins. These figures do not change with changing flavor of Maruchan ramen noodles.

Maruchan ramen noodles are not a source of vitamin A, vitamin C, or calcium. Its content is too low. You would have to eat 10 packages to get your daily recommended dose of calcium or vitamin

Although cheap and easy to make Maruchan Ramen noodles re not a nutritional food. In fact, I will avoid it since it has not the right combination of major nutrients and it is very high in salt.
