The country's largest car manufacturer, Maruti Suzuki India has said that it will roll out CNG variants on its existing cars from early 2010. Meanwhile, Maruti Suzuki has stopped work on LPG models.

Speaking to mediapersons, Chairman of Maruti Suzuki India Mr. R C Bhargava said "Work on the LPG models have stopped because we feel that customers would prefer CNG cars over it. The first batch of the CNG variants will be released early next year."

Maruti Suzuki India would start introducing the clean fuel cars once the distribution network of CNG is upgraged all over the country. The metro and big cities will receive the advantages first, said Mr. Bhargava.

The company plans to markets these cars in large numbers to ensure that the customers do not wait in long queues and suffer from delay. The distribution network is expected to be strengthened by 2010, by which time Maruti Suzuki will roll out new cars. The first CNG variant is expected to be released in the highest selling small car Alto. However, Mr. Bhargava declined to comment on the model which will get the new CNG variant first.
