Maruti Opens Ritz Engine Facility

Maruti Suzuki India opened a new engine manufacturing facility in Gurgaon, on Tuesday. The new engine is exclusively for the soon-to-launch Maruti Suzuki Ritz hatchback.

The new engines called 1,197cc K12M engines run on petrol churns out 85 hp of power. It is only the second aluminium engine to be manufactured by Maruti in India, after the K10B which is used in A-star. The K12M is the second in the K-series of engines developed by Suzuki Motor Corporation.

According to a statement issued by, Maruti Suzuki has demonstrated its commitment to bring in the next level of engine technology to India. The K12M engine strengthens the company's efforts to deliver fuel efficiency and green engine technology for Indian car buyers.

The K12M engine complies with Bharat Stage-IV emission standards, which are set to be enforced in select Indian cities by mid-2010.

Maruti Suzuki is set to position Ritz at the upper end of the compact car segment. Ritz will be the latest car to grace Indian roads after the hatch A-Star.
